Abstract Prior research has shown that tropical cyclone (TC) size, which is integral in determining the spatial extent of TC impacts, is influenced by environmental wind shear and the overall moisture environment. This study considers North Atlantic TCs located within low to moderate wind shear and at least 100 km from major landmasses.

How Many Floods Have Occurred in China in the Past Decade? A Perspective From Social Media
Abstract Global climate change has led to frequent and widespread flood disasters in China. Traditional flood disaster investigations mainly focus on major flood events, and small‐scale flood events are often overlooked. This study utilized the Sina Weibo social media platform to detect flood events in 370 cities in China from 2012 to 2023.

Abstract Artificial lakes (reservoirs) accumulate sediment and organic carbon (OC) over time. We investigated sedimentation processes in a dryland reservoir and informed OC burial and potential preservation. Our study site, Elephant Butte Reservoir on the Rio Grande, New Mexico, USA receives inflows from sediment‐laden, monsoon‐driven flash floods ...

Inverse Energy Cascades in the Boundary Layer During Strong Winds Based on Doppler Lidar
Abstract Inverse energy cascade (IEC), where energy moves from small to large eddies, has been debated, with limited observational evidence. This study used 19 months of Doppler Lidar data from Qingdao, China, to examine IEC associated with gusts. We found IECs occurred 15% of the time at 50 m height.

Infrasonic emissions from local meteorological events: A summary of data taken throughout 1984 [PDF]
Records of infrasonic signals, propagating through the Earth's atmosphere in the frequency band 2 to 16 Hz, were gathered on a three microphone array at Langley Research Center throughout the year 1984. Digital processing of these records fulfilled three

A rare short‐term winter graupel event occurred at Mianyang Airport in the Sichuan Basin on January 10, 2025, with graupel particles less than 5 mm in diameter and lasting approximately 3 min. Based on surface observations, dual‐polarization radar data, and reanalysis data, this study reveals the triggering mechanism, microphysical characteristics, and
