Lightning and Thunderstorm Observation with High Resolution
A high resolution radar has been newly developed and tested recently in order to observe the fine structure of thunderstorm. Lightning location system which determines the sources of the VHF impulses emitted from lightning also implemented near the radar site.

High‐energy electron beams launched into space by thunderstorms [PDF]
Using CGRO/BATSE data, a possible new source of high‐energy electrons and positrons in the earth's inner magnetosphere is presented. These particles are generated within the upper atmosphere by Compton scattering and pair‐production of gamma‐rays originating from near the tropopause as Terrestrial Gamma‐ray Flashes (TGFs). Once created, these energetic

Atmospheric modelling of grass pollen rupturing mechanisms for thunderstorm asthma prediction
The world’s most severe thunderstorm asthma event occurred in Melbourne, Australia on 21 November 2016, coinciding with the peak of the grass pollen season.

High-altitude electrical discharges associated with thunderstorms and lightning [PDF]
The purpose of this paper is to introduce electrical discharge phenomena known as transient luminous events above thunderstorms to the lightning protection community. Transient luminous events include the upward electrical discharges from thunderstorms known as starters, jets, and gigantic jets, and electrical discharges initiated in the lower ...

Research on objective forecast method of thunderstorm potential based on probability and weight
Based on NCEP reanalysis data and the observation data of thunderstorms at national and regional stations from May to August between 2007 and 2015, using the method combining weights and probability statistics, the physical quantities that are closely ...

SPECTROMETRY OF HIGH-ENERGY PHOTONS ON HIGH MOUNTAIN OBSERVATORY LOMNICKÝ ŠTÍT DURING THUNDERSTORMS
Abstract Lomnický štít, Slovakia, 2634 m above sea level, is known to be a place of extreme electric fields measured during thunderstorms and is thus a suitable place for thunderstorm-related ionising radiation research. We present one of the strongest Thunderstorm ground enhancements (TGE) ever detected, which occurred on 12 September ...

Thunderstorm frequency (TSF) prediction with higher accuracy is of great significance under climate extremes for reducing potential damages. However, TSF prediction has received little attention because a thunderstorm event is a combination of intricate ...

Exceptional sequence of severe thunderstorms and related flash floods in May and June 2016 in Germany – Part 1: Meteorological background [PDF]
During a 15-day episode from 26 May to 9 June 2016, Germany was affected by an exceptionally large number of severe thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall, related flash floods and creek flooding, hail, and tornadoes caused substantial losses running into ...
