Trends in thunderstorm days, lightning activity, squalls and the environmental factors in Hong Kong
This study analyses trends in Hong Kong's convective weather using long‐term observer‐based and shorter‐term instrument‐based data. Annual thunderstorm days increased significantly by 1.9 days decade−1 in 1947–2024, notably in June–September, consistent with increasingly favourable warm‐season environments for thunderstorms.

The English language is a gargantuan, gluttonous beast. It has become extraordinary among its peers in its powers of assimilation – such that we rarely consider the diverse origins of the words we use. In this two‐part paper, we will explore these origins, including the Pontic‐Caspian steppe, the British Empire, latinophone scientists and a TV show. We

Spatiotemporal mapping the usable space of free‐roaming equids across the western United States
Identification of the inter‐decadal (2010‐2011) enhancement‐degradation gradients in the usable space for wild equid Herd Management Areas in the Great Basin, USA. Abstract Management of feral equids in the American West is hindered by the lack of a formal habitat map and monitoring system.

Thunderstorm occurrence at ten sites across Great Britain over 1884–1993
The UK Met Office's Daily Weather Reports (DWR) contain extensive logs of UK thunderstorm activity. To date, only a very small fraction of these data have been digitized as part of the MIDAS dataset, and exclusively after 1950. Using the recently‐scanned

Study of Positive Corona Discharge of Needle Plate Electrodes in Airflow
ABSTRACT For high‐speed moving objects such as aircraft and wind turbine blades, discharge occurs under strong airflow. Research on lightning attachment characteristics has been extensive, whereas the role of corona discharge in pre‐breakdown streamer development has received less attention.

Cb-LIKE – Cumulonimbus Likelihood: Thunderstorm forecasting with fuzzy logic
Aviation is heavily affected by thunderstorms. Approaching storm cells with accompanying effects such as heavy rain, hail or downdrafts cause delays and flight cancellations.

Rare Lightning and Convection Characteristics During Two Successive Tornadoes in Southern China
ABSTRACT Systematic investigations into lightning characteristics of tornado storms in China remain scarce. This study comprehensively analyses rare lightning behaviour and overshooting top characteristics for two successive tornadoes during a long‐lived supercell in southern China on 27 April 2024.

We aimed to characterise Alternaria sensitisation trajectories from childhood to adulthood; we compared SPT, whole‐extract sIgE and rAlt a 1, and assessed their longitudinal association with asthma and rhinitis in the Isle of Wight birth cohort. Alternaria sensitisation in the Isle of Wight Birth Cohort emerges mainly in late adolescence and, when ...

Identification and analysis of the simultaneously conditions with the severe thunderstorm events at the synoptic station of Kermanshah [PDF]
One of the most devastating phenomena of meteorology which varies extensively in spatial and temporal extent and manifests itself at various scales, is thunderstorms.
