Effects of Combined Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation and Oral Capsaicinoids on Swallowing Function: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
We investigated the effects of combined transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and oral capsaicinoids on swallowing function in 21 healthy young adults. The combined cortical and peripheral sensory intervention could potentially facilitate swallowing.

Thyroid Nodule: An Unusual Presentation of Relapse of Multiple Myeloma

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2018
Multiple myeloma symbolizes malignant proliferation of plasma cells derived from a single clone. In multiple myeloma, the involvement of the soft tissue, thyroid gland, and thyroid cartilage is rarely seen.

Thyroid Hormone Actions in Cartilage and Bone [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Thyroid Journal, 2012
Thyroid hormones exert widespread and complex actions in almost all tissues during development, throughout childhood and in adults. The skeleton is an important T3-target tissue that exemplifies these processes, and yet understanding of the specific cellular and molecular mechanisms of T3 action in bone and cartilage remains incomplete.

Hyper‐buoyancy flotation increases cervical disc height and reduces vertebral stiffness, with only partial reversal after acute 1 g axial loading

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Exposure to microgravity is associated with stature increases, moderate‐to‐severe back/neck pain and elevated lumbar and cervical intervertebral disc (IVD) herniation risk post‐flight. Whilst lumbar pathophysiology has been investigated, little attention has been placed on the cervical spine.

Prognostic Factors for Postoperative Complications. An Aggregate Protocol for 10 Observational Studies From the Danish TRIPLE‐A Cohort of 1.2 Million Surgeries

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 7, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Postoperative complications substantially increase morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. Understanding prognostic factors is essential for risk stratification, targeted prevention strategies, and development of prediction models.

Therapeutic Potential of Carica papaya (L.) Extract on NRF2/KEAP1 and Apoptotic Pathways in Asbestos‐Induced Lung Toxicity

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2026.
Asbestos exposure induced oxidative stress, apoptosis, and lung tissue damage in animal models. Treatment with Carica papaya (500 mg/kg) extract improved antioxidant status, reduced oxidative stress biomarkers, and restored lung architecture. Gene expression analysis showed modulation of NRF2/KEAP1 and apoptotic pathways.

Deep Learning for Pretreatment Imaging‐Based Tumor and Nodal Classification in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Review and Network Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesHead &Neck, Volume 48, Issue 7, Page 1971-1983, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Accurate pretreatment assessment of the extent of tumor invasion and status of cervical lymph node metastasis is essential for staging and treatment planning in HNSCC. Deep learning (DL) shows promise but is limited by methodological heterogeneity. Methods We conducted a systematic review and network meta‐analysis (PRISMA). Studies (

Salivary Extracellular Vesicles: Paradigm Shift in Liquid Biopsy Diagnostics

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology, Volume 5, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs), lipid bilayer nanoparticles released by virtually all cells, serve as essential messengers for intercellular communication. Due to their involvement in several pathophysiological processes, EVs have recently gained considerable attention as potentially diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for various illnesses ...

From Expectations to Experience: A Comparison of Program Director Priorities to Resident Case Logs

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 136, Issue 7, Page 2954-2962, July 2026.
The present study identified 47 essential otolaryngology procedures via program director surveys and evaluated the extent of resident participation in these cases through ACGME case logs. Results revealed significant variability in surgical experience, with nearly half of these essential procedures being logged fewer than 10 times during residency ...
