Laryngeal Cyst of the Thyroid Cartilage

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1985
Laryngeal cysts of thyroid cartilage origin are unusually rare. A patient had a degenerative cyst of the thyroid cartilage. This presented as a unilateral false cord swelling. Computed tomography helped to localize the lesion to the left thyroid ala. An external laryngeal approach was used for excisional biopsy, and this also proved to be curative. The

Thyroid cartilage compression causing stroke

The Laryngoscope, 2019
We describe the diagnostic workup and surgical treatment of a patient presenting with the unique case of vertebral artery (VA) occlusion subsequent to head flexion leading to compression of an aberrant VA by the ipsilateral superior cornu of the thyroid ...

Calcified spur of the thyroid cartilage

Auris Nasus Larynx, 2013
We describe an unusual laryngeal anomaly incidentally detected in an adult male patient who had suffered from chronic dysphonia since infancy with no change of voice quality over time. Laryngostroboscopy revealed a formation originating below the anterior commissure and protruding through the vocal folds, which computed tomography scan showed to be a ...

Thyroid Cartilage Fracture

Archives of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, 2005

A Rare Case of Symptomatic Carotid Stenosis Caused by Mechanical Stimulation by Thyroid Cartilage and Frequent Swimming.

Journal of Stroke & Cerebrovascular Diseases, 2019
BACKGROUND Bony structures around the carotid artery such as the styloid process and hyoid bone can cause dissection, compression, plaque formation, and plaque rupture of the carotid artery. To the best of our knowledge, this case is the first finding of

Thyroid cartilage movements during breathing

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1995
We measured lateral (outward) thyroid cartilage displacement (TCD) of the larynx in six supine anesthetized (intravenous chloralose) dogs. Combined left and right TCDs were measured with linear transducers attached by a thread to the thyroid alae. During tidal breathing via a tracheostomy, phasic inspiratory TCD occurred in all dogs [0.66 +/- 0.2 mm ...

Multiple myeloma involving the thyroid cartilage

Auris Nasus Larynx, 2007
Multiple myeloma, solitary plasmacytoma, and extramedullary plasmacytoma constitute a continuous disease spectrum of plasma cell neoplasms. In the larynx, although extramedullary plasmacytoma in the supraglottic region has been sometimes reported, plasma cell neoplasm with involvement of the thyroid cartilage is extremely rare.
