Thyroid function in non-thyroidal illness
Irish Journal of Medical Science, 1977SERUM total and non-protein-bound (“free”) fraction of thyroxine and triiodothyronine together with the urinary unconjugated concentrations of these hormones have been measured in normal subjects and in a group of hospital in-patients suffering from a variety of moderately severe subacute or chronic non-thyroidal illness.

THYROID FUNCTION IN ACROMEGALY
The Lancet, 1971Abstract Thyroid-function studies were performed in 12 patients with active acromegaly. 1 patient had thyrotoxicosis, the rest were considered euthyroid although 3 of them had abnormal thyroid scans. All patients had a normal serum thyroid-stimulating-hormone (T.S.H.) level.

Thyroid Function in the Elderly
The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1982Thyroid dysfunction is common in older individuals, yet the diagnosis is often complicated by atypical clinical presentations and difficulty in interpretation of laboratory tests. An understanding of the alterations in thyroid function occurring normally as a consequence of the aging process is necessary for correct laboratory diagnosis of thyroid ...

Abstract The maximum observed uptake of radioiodine by normal Amphiuma thyroid was about 5.6% of the injected dose at 96 hours after the isotope injection. Thus, the level and rate of thyroid function are relatively low. Thyroxine given in large doses (about 5 mg) reduced the thyroid uptake to 0.8% at 96 hours after the I131-injection.

Thyroid Function in Experimental Isoimmune Thyroiditis
Hormone Research in Paediatrics, 1970At a stage when histological damage detectable witha light microscope is slight, various indices of the thyroid function in rats immunized with total homologous thyroid extract are impaired, suggesting the existence of a ‘pre histological’ stage of isoimmune thyroiditis.

Publisher Summary This chapter provides an overview of the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the thyroid to the understanding of thyroid function. Thyroid function and its diseases have become progressively more important as the life span of some domestic species has increased.
