The Thyroid Gland

2012
This chapter begins with a description of the anatomic location of the thyroid glands and their histological appearance during hyperthyroid states and hypothyroid states. The chemical structure of T3 and T4 is given. The steps in synthesis of thyroglobulin to T4 are detailed: accumulation of iodine, oxidation to I0, organification, and coupling.

The Thyroid Gland

1975
Several aspects of the female reproductive cycle are influenced by the thyroid gland through its hormones thyroxin (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) (Ingbar and Woeber, 1969; Werner and Ingbar, 1971; Rawson, Money, and Grief, 1969; Tata, 1964). The thyroid gland consists of two lobes joined by an isthmus and attached to the anterior aspect of the trachea.

The Thyroid Gland

2019
The thyroid gland is the largest single organ specialized for endocrine hormone production. Its function is to secrete an appropriate amount of the thyroid hormones, primarily 3,5,3′,5′-1-tetraiodothyronine (thyroxine, T4; the thyroid is the only source of T4.) and a lesser quantity of 3,5,3′-1-triiodothyronine (T3; the thyroid secretes 20% of ...
