The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1953IN 1945 we (1) presented a nine-year study of the incidence of thyroid carcinoma in goiter at the Illinois Research Hospital and found that in 192 patients with nontoxic nodular goiter having thyroidectomy, the incidence of carcinoma was 17.1 per cent.

Ultrasound (US) followed by USG-FNA is paramount for the evaluation of thyroid nodules. This chapter covers the US of normal thyroid gland, thyroid gland anomalies, and thyroid nodules including US features that prompt FNA cytology correlation. USG-FNA techniques for sampling thyroid nodules and specimen handling are also included.
