Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

Occurrence of symptomatic meningioma as a second neoplasm in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer treated with radioiodine

open access: yesIndian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2012
Occurrence of second tumors has been seen in patients with papillary and follicular thyroid cancer. We studied the occurrence of meningioma as a second neoplasm in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer treated with radioiodine at our institution.

Histomorphological pattern of thyroid lesions: A prospective study [PDF]

open access: yesAl Ameen Journal of Medical Sciences, 2022
Background: Thyroid disorders are the commonest endocrine disorders worldwide. 15–20% of the thyroid nodules are indeterminate on cytological results. The definite diagnosis of these nodules is provided by examination of thyroidectomy. Objective: Aim was

Horner’s Syndrome and Thyroid Neoplasms

open access: yesORL, 2002
Although thyroid goiter is a common condition, it rarely results in Horner’s syndrome. We report a case of a patient with an intrathoracic multinodular goiter complicated by Horner’s syndrome. Benign thyroid disease was confirmed pathologically, and the patient’s symptoms improved after surgery.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules in a general teaching hospital setting performing moderate number of biopsies: Outcome of indeterminate cytologic results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Introduction: Our aim was to assess the usefulness of fine-needle aspiration cytologic biopsy (FNA) of the thyroid in our general teaching hospital with average health care facility performing moderate number of such procedures and to evaluate the ...

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Synchronous presentation of papillary thyroid carcinoma and Hodgkin lymphoma – a case report

open access: yesLibri Oncologici
Multiple primary malignancies are increasingly detected due to advanced imaging modalities and comprehensive diagnostic protocols. Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most frequent type of thyroid neoplasm with ever-rising incidence.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Thyroid as a Result of Anaplastic Transformation from BRAF-Positive Papillary Thyroid Cancer

open access: yesCase Reports in Oncological Medicine, 2017
Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignant neoplasm of the thyroid. Majority of the PTC carries an excellent prognosis. However, patients with tall cell variant (TCV) of papillary thyroid carcinoma have a worse prognosis than those ...

Poorly differentiated (insular) thyroid carcinoma arising in a long-standing colloid goitre: A cytological dilemma

open access: yesJournal of Cytology, 2012
Poorly differentiated (insular) thyroid carcinoma (PDITC) is an uncommon thyroglobulin producing neoplasm intermediate in aggressiveness between well-differentiated carcinomas of follicular cell origin and undifferentiated anaplastic carcinoma.
