The Impact of Change in Practicing Cytopathologists' Team on Risk of Malignancy in a Retrospective Single‐Centre Project of 652 Thyroid Nodules: A Quality Assurance Project

open access: yesCytopathology, EarlyView.
This quality assurance project confirms that thyroid FNAC is a reliable tool for assessing the risk of malignancy (ROM), with ROM rates aligning with published data. However, cytology team changes can reveal interobserver variability and shift category distribution and malignancy rates, underlining the need for ongoing quality assurance and training ...

S1 guideline sweat gland carcinoma

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, EarlyView.
Summary The current classification of sweat gland carcinomas is based on histomorphological characteristics and distinguishes between more than 20 entities. Most patients are older, but some subtypes also affect middle‐aged and younger patients. The majority of tumors arise de novo. Sweat gland carcinomas have nonspecific clinical features.

Importance of Hypercortisolism in BP Control, Cardiovascular Risk and in Patients With Difficult‐to‐Control Hypertension: An Overview for Primary Care Physicians

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aims Hypertension remains one of the most prevalent and consequential modifiable cardiovascular risk factors worldwide, affecting approximately 1.28 billion adults globally and nearly half of the United States population. Despite the availability of effective therapies, optimal blood pressure control is achieved in fewer than one in four ...

Hypercortisolism: Causes, Consequences and Clinical Significance – A Review of Pathophysiology

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercortisolism or Cushing syndrome is a heterogeneous clinical spectrum caused by chronic glucocorticoid excess, ranging from exogenous Cushing syndrome to rare endogenous aetiologies and the increasingly recognised entity of mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS). Physiological cortisol production is tightly regulated by the hypothalamic–

Academic Achievement Test for Anatomy of the Neck: Validity and Reliability Analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Dental Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Anatomy education remains a fundamental component of medical and dental curricula, and mastering neck anatomy is particularly challenging due to its structural complexity and clinical relevance. Despite its importance, there is a limited number of validated instruments specifically designed to assess academic achievement in neck ...

Correlation of ultrasound features in the TIRADS scoring system with cytological findings in the FNAC of thyroid nodules and their association with the metabolic status

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Internal Medicine
Background Thyroid nodules were widely encountered in the population, and the selection of thyroid nodules for fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) remains confusing. It is essential to investigate the risk factors associated with thyroid nodules.

Novel and emerging skin carcinomas and adnexal tumours

open access: yesHistopathology, EarlyView.
The present review aims to provide an overview of the main emerging skin epithelial tumours, with particular emphasis on salivary gland analogue sweat gland tumours and poorly differentiated carcinomas. Epidermal and adnexal tumours of the skin constitute a complex and heterogeneous group of neoplasms, with distinct morphology and behaviour.

Cutaneous Leiomyosarcoma of the Skin: An Updated Review of Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, and Management

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
This review provides an update on the epidemiology, pathogenesis, and clinical/histologic features of cutaneous leiomyosarcoma. Prognostic factors (e.g., depth of tumor involvement, grade, etc.) that can facilitate risk stratification are also discussed, as are treatment approaches for this rare malignancy.

Prevalence and predictors of thyroid nodules among adults: analyzing the association with metabolic syndrome in a cross-sectional study

open access: yesBMC Endocrine Disorders
Background Thyroid nodules are prevalent clinical findings with potential for malignancy, particularly in aging populations. Metabolic syndrome, characterized by interrelated metabolic abnormalities, has been implicated as a potential risk factor.
