Is Thyroid Hemiagenesis Really Seen Seldomly?: Two Case Reports and Review of the Literature - Case Report

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2005
Thyroid hemiagenesis is a rare embriological anomaly. It is diagnosed incidentally during examination for other thyroid gland diseases. Two patients with hemiagenesis of the thyroid gland were presented.

Case‐malformed signal detection and prioritisation using EUROmediCAT data for pharmacovigilance in pregnancy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Many women take medications during pregnancy. However, the risk to the fetus from most medications is uncertain. Congenital anomalies are one of the leading causes of infant death and contribute to long‐term disability. Signal detection methods can be used to systematically identify possible medication–anomaly associations that require further ...

Incidental focal uptake in oropharynx due to lingual thyroid on diagnostic 131I whole-body scan after total thyroidectomy.

open access: yes, 2013
After total thyroidectomy for papillary thyroid carcinoma, a 37-year-old woman underwent a 2-mCi (131)I whole-body scan which demonstrated focal uptake in the anterior neck and in the oropharynx.

American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and Associazione Medici Endocrinologi medical guidelines for clinical practice for the diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules.

open access: yes, 2006
Thyroid nodules are common and are frequently benign. Current data suggest that the prevalence of palpable thyroid nodules is 3% to 7% in North America; the prevalence is as high as 50% based on ultrasonography (US) or autopsy data.

Anatomy of the Soft Palate and Its Role in Upper Airway Function: A Narrative Review

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The soft palate is a complex anatomical structure, located at the posterior aspect of the oral and nasal cavities, able to dynamically create valve closure of the nasal and the oral cavities. Its precise movement is critical for speech, swallowing, and respiration. Despite its functional importance, detailed characterization of its constituent

Tc-99m Mibi Spect in Detecting Metastatic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma in Patients with Elevated Human Serum Thyroglobulin Levels but Negative I-131 Whole Body Scan

open access: yes, 2009
Papillary carcinomas are the most common thyroid malignancies. They invade the regional lymphatics and metastasize frequently to local lymph nodes in the neck. Distant metastasis, generally to the lungs, is also common.

Proteomic profiling of Elp1‐deficient trigeminal ganglia reveals disruption of neurotrophic and metabolic pathways in a familial dysautonomia mouse model

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Elp1, a subunit of the Elongator complex, is essential for tRNA modification and neuronal development. Mutations in ELP1 underlie familial dysautonomia (FD), a disorder marked by sensory and autonomic neuropathy. While loss of Elp1 disrupts trigeminal ganglion formation and survival, the downstream molecular consequences remain ...

Role of initial iodine-131 whole-body scan and serum thyroglobulin in differentiated thyroid carcinoma metastases

open access: yes, 1998
evaluated the role of first I-131-whole-body scan and of first serum thyroglobulin (Tg) measurement after surgery in the early diagnosis of metastases from differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC).

Chemically Modular, Nonfluorinated Polymer Adsorbents for Capturing Per‐ and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Nonfluorinated polymer networks for PFAS adsorption are synthesized using active ester click chemistry. Incorporating Lewis base ligands along with hydrophilic and hydrophobic co‐monomers leads to high PFOA binding efficiency. Ligand basicity and pH are found to play an important role in PFOA sorption.
