The incidence of recurrence in well-differentiated thyroid malignancies range from 10 to 30%. It is estimated that about 31-46% of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer will have the persistent disease and 1.2-6.8% will have structural recurrences during post-operative monitoring, depending on the initial therapy and prognostic variables.

AbstractReoperative thyroid surgery is an uncommon operation associated with a high complication rate. We retrospectively reviewed the data of 115 patients to study the incidence of complications after reoperative thyroid surgery. There were 107 women and 8 men (13.4:1.0) with an average age of 42.8 years (range 18–80 years).

Hyperthyroidism is the most commonly diagnosed endocrine disease in cats. Surgery is a widely available curative therapy for hyperthyroid cats. Because of the multiple metabolic changes associated with hyperthyroidism, surgical management can be challenging. Multiple methods of thyroidectomy and their associated levels of morbidity are reviewed.
