Ultrafine-grained structure formation in Ti-6Al-4V alloy via warm swaging [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The influence of warm swaging on the structure and properties of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was studied. Warm swaging of the alloy in the interval 680-500°C with the total strain of ε=2.66 was found to be resulted in the formation of a homogeneous globular ...

PBF‐LB/M of Ti‐6Al‐4V: High‐Pressure Solution Treatment and Aging for Applications in a Sustainable Aerospace

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

Mechanical properties of TiB/Ti-6Al-4V alloy composites fabricated by spark plasma sintering

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2017
Ti-6Al-4V alloy exhibits a good combination of excellent properties, such as high specific strength, high fatigue strength, good ductility and weldability. However, Ti-6Al-4V alloy shows low stiffness and poor wear resistance.

Tribological Properties of Groove-Textured Ti-6Al-4V Alloys with Solid Lubricants in Dry Sliding against GCr15 Steel Balls

open access: yesMicromachines, 2023
A nanosecond laser is used to fabricate groove-patterned textures on the upper surface of Ti-6Al-4V alloys, and then molybdic sulfide solid lubricants are filled into the grooves. The treated titanium alloy is subjected to friction and wear tests.

Effect of Thermal Treatment of Biomedical Ti-6Al-4V Alloy on Corrosion Resistance in Simulated Physiological Solutions [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2020
The effect of heat treatment on the corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V alloy was investigated in the artificial saliva solution (MAS). It has been revealed that the thermal annealing treatment temperature favors the cathodic reactions and reduce the ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Effects of HIP Process Parameters on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ti-6Al-4V Fabricated by SLM

open access: yesMetals, 2023
Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy products formed by selective laser melting (SLM) are characterized by high strength and low plasticity. In addition, there may be pores inside the material, which may become a fracture sprouting point and accelerate the failure ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.
