Additive manufacturing (AM) allows great geometric freedom for lightweight components. As parts are progressively optimized exploiting potentials in AM leading in smaller material cross sections, high pressure solution treating and aging (STA) treatments show an enormous potential for strongly improving material properties.

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Characterisation of bioactive films on Ti–6Al–4V alloy
Abstract In an attempt to increase the bioactivity and corrosion resistance of a Ti–6Al–4V alloy, the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process for surface modification was utilised. Selected samples were subjected to further treatment, either thermal or alkali. The morphology, chemical composition and phase composition of the ground and treated Ti–

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

Fatigue behavior of PVD coated Ti–6Al–4V alloy
AbstractThe aim of the present work is to identify an environmentally clean coating process that will present lower influence in the Ti–6Al–4V fatigue strength. Axial fatigue tests of Ti–6Al–4V alloy TiN, CrN and WC:H (tungsten containing diamond-like carbon) Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coated was evaluated.

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.
