Tips for improving consistency of thyroid nodule interpretation with ACR TI-RADS

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasonography, 2022
Thyroid nodules are very common in the general population. Most are benign and even those that are malignant are typically slow-growing and do not require treatment. Overdiagnosis and overtreatment of thyroid nodules has resulted in significant healthcare costs.

Nutrient/TOR signaling controls adipose mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) to regulate organismal growth in Drosophila

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Animals must match their growth rate to available nutrients. We show that in Drosophila larvae, the nutrient‐sensing TOR kinase controls growth by regulating levels of TFAM, a key regulator of mitochondrial function, in the adipose tissue. When nutrients are abundant, high TOR activity suppresses TFAM, lowering mitochondrial bioenergetic activity and ...

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

Is thyroid imaging reporting and data system useful as an adult ultrasonographic malignancy risk stratification method in pediatric thyroid nodules?

open access: yesJournal of Medical Ultrasound, 2019
Background: Data on thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS) generally belong to studies performed in adults. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the performance and utility of TI-RADS in the pediatric group.

Conventional ultrasound, color Doppler, TI-RADS, and shear wave elastography for thyroid nodule differentiation: a study of efficacy compared with the histopathology results

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2021
Background Although a minority of the thyroid nodules is malignant, usually the invasive diagnostic procedures are warranted. This prospective study aims to assess the diagnostic performance of the US criteria in addition to the TI-RADS score and the SWE

High Risk Thyroid Nodule Discrimination and Management by Modified TI-RADS

open access: yesCancer Management and Research, 2021
Thyroid cancer is the most common primary malignant disorder of the thyroid. We aimed to illustrate the modified TI-RADS report system for differentiating malignant thyroid nodules from benign ones, and especially its role in the management of high risk nodules. In this retrospective study, 5,162 healthy individuals who underwent thyroid ultrasound ...

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

A practical trial to use Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) in differentiation between benign and malignant thyroid nodules

open access: yesThe Egyptian Journal of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, 2019
Background Thyroid nodules have been reported up to 68% in adults using ultrasound examination. The American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR TI-RADS) is founded on the evaluation of ultrasound (US) features in five ...
