Biological Effects of a Three-Dimensionally Printed Ti6Al4V Scaffold Coated with Piezoelectric BaTiO3 Nanoparticles on Bone Formation.

open access: yesACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2020
Bone defect repair at load-bearing sites is a challenging clinical problem for orthopedists. Defect reconstruction with implants is the most common treatment; however, it requires the implant to have good mechanical properties and the capacity to promote

Modeling of Microstructure Evolution of Ti6Al4V for Additive Manufacturing [PDF]

open access: yesMetals, 2018
AM processes are characterized by complex thermal cycles that have a deep influence on the microstructural transformations of the deposited alloy. In this work, a general model for the prediction of microstructure evolution during solid state transformations of Ti6Al4V is presented.

The Effect of Position of Materials on a Build Platform on the Hardness, Roughness, and Corrosion Resistance of Ti6Al4V Produced by DMLS Technology

open access: yesMetals, 2019
This article is focused on the effect of position on a build platform on the hardness, roughness and corrosion rate of parts (Ti6Al4V) produced by direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technology. During the sintering process, the test samples were located

Mechanical Properties of Architected Polymer Lattice Materials: A Comparative Study of Additive Manufacturing and CAD Using FEM and µ‐CT

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 27, 2 April 2026.
This study examines how pore shape and manufacturing‐induced deviations affect the mechanical properties of 3D‐printed lattice materials with constant porosity. Combining µ‐CT analysis, FEM, and compression testing, the authors show that structural imperfections reduce stiffness and strength, while bulk material inhomogeneities probably enhance ...

Directed Irradiation Synthesis as an Advanced Plasma Technology for Surface Modification to Activate Porous and “as-received” Titanium Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
For the design of smart titanium implants, it is essential to balance the surface properties without any detrimental effect on the bulk properties of the material.

Ti6Al4V‐Bioglass‐Copper Composites for Load‐Bearing Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 13, 3 April 2026.
We have designed and manufactured a novel Ti64‐based composite by adding 45S5 bioglass (BG) and copper (Cu). Adding BG on titanium improves wear resistance and biocompatibility, whereas Cu addition improves mechanical strength while providing inherent lifelong bacterial resistance.

Adaptive Twisting Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 21, 13 April 2026.
This work introduces torque‐controlled twisting metamaterials as a transformative platform for adaptive crashworthiness. By combining multiscale predictive modeling with experimental validation on additively manufactured gyroids, it demonstrates tunable stiffness, collapse stress, and energy absorption.

Evaluation of Dislocation Densities in Various Microstructures of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V (Eli) by the Method of X-ray Diffraction

open access: yesMaterials, 2020
Dislocations play a central role in determining strength and flow properties of metals and alloys. Diffusionless phase transformation of β→α in Ti6Al4V during the Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) process produces martensitic microstructures with high ...

Reduction of the mesh size influence on the results of a lagrangian finite element machining mode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Mesh dependence of the results of a finite element model are well known in many fields such as in structural design. This problem is however not much addressed in the literature for machining modelling although it is crucial for the quality of the results ...
