Stroke burden and functional impacts in adults with sickle cell disease
British Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.Stroke was identified in 4.6% of 454 adults with sickle cell disease. Stroke occurred not only across HbSS/Sβ0 phenotypes but also HbSC/Sβ+ as well, challenging traditional assumptions. Stroke was associated with long‐term functional impairment, including cognitive deficits and higher disability scores.
