Thermal formation of vacancies in TiAl
Physical Review B, 1994The formation of thermal vacancies, which is a key issue with respect to the high-temperature properties of ordered intermetallic compounds, was studied in \ensuremath{\gamma}-TiAl by means of positron lifetime spectroscopy between ambient temperature and 1400 K.

Pathways for microstructural development in TiAl
Materials Science and Engineering, 1988Abstract Rapid solidification processing (RSP) of intermetallic alloys can provide alternative solidification paths and lead to the formation of metastable products. For the intermetallic TiAl with an equilibrium L10 structure, RSP has yielded a metastable hexagonal close packed (h.c.p.) α-Ti phase in both fine powder and melt-spun ribbon.

Deformation Behavior of TiAl Compounds with the TiAl/Ti3Al Lamellar Microstructure
1992In the last few years, substantial progress has been made in our understanding of the microstructure and the deformation and fracture behavior of TiAl compounds. We have made uniaxial tension tests of specimens of the TiAl compounds whose lamellar orientation is controlled so that shear deformation occurs parallel to the lamellar boundaries only in the

Formation of TiAl–Ti5Si3 and TiAl–Al2O3 in situ composites by combustion synthesis
Intermetallics, 2008Abstract Preparation of TiAl–Ti5Si3 and TiAl–Al2O3 in situ composites with a broad range of composition was conducted by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). Sample compacts containing Ti, Al, and TiO2 powders were employed to produce the TiAl–matrix composite reinforced by Al2O3, which was yielded through the displacement reaction of ...

Hardness measurement of (TiB2−TiAl)/TiAl symmetrically function gradient materials
Journal of Wuhan University of Technology-Mater. Sci. Ed., 2002(TiB2−TiAl)/TiAl symmetrically function gradient materials (FGM) were prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS). Owing to the difference of the thermal expansion coefficients between TiB2 and TiAl, a compressive surface stress was introduced to the FGM by the thermal expansion mismatch.

Alignment of the TiAl/Ti3Al lamellar microstructure in TiAl alloys by directional solidification
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1997Abstract By using an appropriately oriented seed from the TiAl–Si system, the TiAl/Ti 3 Al lamellar microstructure was aligned parallel to the growth direction for ingots having compositions of Ti–47Al, Ti–43Al–3Si, and Ti–46.5Al–3Nb–0.5Si (at.%). Directional solidification was performed in a floating zone furnace at growth rates between 5 and 40 mm ...

Friction and wear properties of TiAl and Ti2AlN/TiAl composites at high temperature
Journal of Wuhan University of Technology-Mater. Sci. Ed., 2013The high-temperature friction and wear properties of TiAl alloys and Ti2AlN/TiAl composites (TTC) in contact with nickel-based superalloy were studied. The results showed that, at 800 and 1 000 °C, the coefficient of the friction (COF) decreased with the increase of sliding velocity and the wear loss of the TTC decreased with the increase of volume ...
