Plasticity of γ-TiAl alloys

2018
Gamma titanium aluminide alloys are emerging as a lightweight replacement to nickel superalloys, with current application in turbine stages of aero-engines, as well as in high performance automobiles and potentially the nuclear industry. The lack of toughness of its two constitutive intermetallic phases, γ-TiAl and α2-Ti3Al, prevents a conventional ...

Effect of alloying elements on the behaviour of TiAl-based alloys

Intermetallics, 2014
Abstract TiAl-based alloys containing Nb, Mo and Cr have been produced by induction melting both under an Ar atmosphere and in vacuum. Fracture toughness and isothermal oxidation tests at 900 °C have been performed on a number of alloys in order to evaluate the effect of alloying elements on both fracture toughness and hot corrosion.

Tensile Ductility of Cast TiAl Alloys

Materials Science Forum, 2010
The microstructural characteristics and room temperature tensile ductility in some cast TiAl alloys were analyzed. It was found that grain refinement, either through Q&A treatment in boron-free alloys or through low dose of boron addition in beta solidifying alloys with lamellar microstructures, is not sufficient for good ductility. For cast alloys

Mechanical Properties of TiAl and (TiAl+Ti3 Al) Alloys Produced by Mechanical Alloying

MRS Proceedings, 1990
ABSTRACTTwo representative titanium aluminides containing 48 and 52 at. pct Al were produced by a mechanical alloying (MA) process for the purpose of attaining fine microstructures. For the MA apparatus, an attritor mill and a conventional ball mill were both used and the results compared. Mechanically alloyed powders were consolidated by hot pressing.
