Abstract Magnetotail current sheet (CS) flapping is a universal plasma phenomenon observed at multiple planets, yet its triggering mechanisms remain poorly understood outside of Earth. At Mars, single‐spacecraft observations have also reported tail flapping, but the processes responsible for its onset have never been identified.

Magnetosphere of Mars at Almost Radial Interplanetary Magnetic Field
Abstract We have studied the structure of the Martian magnetosphere under conditions of an almost radial interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). Under such conditions, the currents driven by the motional electric field −1cVsw×BIMF ${-}\frac{1}{c}{\mathbf{V}}_{sw}\times {\mathbf{B}}_{\mathit{IMF}}$ are expected to be strongly reduced, and the induced ...

Abstract The radar surface echo can be separated into coherent and incoherent components by statistical approaches, and the coherent component can be described by a backscattering model related to the RMS height. According to backscattering models for fractal surfaces, the coherent power in decibels decreases with RMS height on a scale independent of ...

Three-dimensional Particle-in-cell Simulations of the Solar Wind Interaction with Asteroid 2016 HO3
The recently discovered asteroid 2016 HO _3 is the most stable quasi-satellite of our Earth. Several missions to 2016 HO _3 have been proposed, including the Tianwen-2 mission of China.

Simulation Analysis on Influential Factors of the Anchoring Force of Claw‐Spine Attachment Device
Asteroids have the characteristics of weak gravity, unknown surface topography and physical properties, and low cohesion of asteroid rocks, which make long‐term attachment to an asteroid challenging. Considering these characteristics, a claw‐spine attachment device was designed, and the effect of anchoring force generation and structural optimization ...

Pixel-level Terrain Processing of the Martian Surface from Moderate Resolution Images of Tianwen-1
The moderate-resolution camera (MoRIC) of the Tianwen-1 orbiter, China’s first Mars exploration mission, is a frame-imaging scheme color camera. However, generating a precise digital elevation model (DEM) from these images faces challenges due to the ...

Plasma Acceleration by Magnetic Tension Forces in the Martian Magnetotail: MAVEN Observations
Abstract The Martian magnetotail is a dynamic region where several processes contribute to plasma acceleration. Here, we analyze ∼5 ${\sim} 5$ years of Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) data to evaluate the role of magnetic tension forces in driving plasma acceleration within current sheets in the tail. Based on magnetic field measurements,

Abstract Mars lacks an intrinsic global magnetic field but possesses crustal magnetic anomalies and an atmosphere. Mars' ionosphere, resulted from interactions between Mars' atmosphere and solar radiation, directly interacts with solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). However, the mechanisms governing ion acceleration and escape from Mars'
