Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review
Proximal tibia fractures in children pose challenges in management due to the complex anatomy in this region. The relationship between the proximal tibial physis, proximal tibial apophysis, extensor mechanism, and nearby vascular structures allows for potential injuries from toddler-aged children through adolescence.

Infantile tibia vara is a developmental condition producing progressive varus deformity of the knee in young children. It appears to have a worse prognosis in the predominantly nonwhite population seen with this condition in the United States than previous studies from Scandinavia would suggest.

Since Blount's classic article was published in 1937, many authors have contributed to the knowledge of tibia vara. Tibia vara is characterized by an abrupt angulation of the tibia into varus in the proximal end. The term does not reveal the etiology of the anatomic deformity, which may be developmental, posttraumatic, or postinfectious. There are four

Fractures of the tibia are brought on by a variety of high-energy injury mechanisms and are prone to complications. The lack of a circumferential soft tissue envelope around the bone makes the bone ends more likely to fail to unite. The soft-tissue envelope is the most important component in the evaluation and subsequent care of tibia fractures ...
