The Natural History of Medial Meniscal Root Tears: A Biomechanical and Clinical Case Perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Posterior medial meniscus root tears (PMMRTs) make up a relatively notable proportion of all meniscus pathology and have been definitively linked to the progression of osteoarthritis (OA).

Undulation instabilities in the meniscus of smectic membranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Using optical microscopy, phase shifting interferometry and atomic force microscopy, we demonstrate the existence of undulated structures in the meniscus of ferroelectric smectic-C* films. The meniscus is characterized by a periodic undulation of the smectic-air interface, which manifests itself in a striped pattern.

Quasi-logarithmic spacing law in dewetting patterns from the drying meniscus of a polymer solution [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Physical Letters 529 (2012) 74-78, 2012
We report on a periodic precipitation pattern emerged from a drying meniscus via evaporation of a polystyrene solution in a Petri dish. It appeared a quasi-logarithmic spacing relation in the pattern as a result of stick-slip motion of the contact line towards the wall. A model based on the dynamics of the evaporating meniscus is proposed.

No difference in osteoarthritis, but less graft failures after 5 years, comparing anatomic double‐bundle to anatomic single‐bundle ACL reconstruction

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare the incidence of knee osteoarthritis (OA) between the anatomic single‐bundle (SB) and anatomic double‐bundle (DB) anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction technique after 5‐year follow‐up (FU).

The International Workshop on Osteoarthritis Imaging Knee MRI Segmentation Challenge: A Multi-Institute Evaluation and Analysis Framework on a Standardized Dataset [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Purpose: To organize a knee MRI segmentation challenge for characterizing the semantic and clinical efficacy of automatic segmentation methods relevant for monitoring osteoarthritis progression. Methods: A dataset partition consisting of 3D knee MRI from 88 subjects at two timepoints with ground-truth articular (femoral, tibial, patellar) cartilage ...

Matrix‐assisted autologous chondrocyte transplantation is effective at mid/long‐term for knee lesions: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This systematic review with meta‐analysis evaluates the long‐term efficacy of matrix‐assisted autologous chondrocyte transplantation (MACT) in terms of functional scores using scaffolds made of hyaluronic acid (HA) or collagen (C). Methods Nineteen articles met the eligibility criteria for the analysis.

Significant race and gender differences in anterior cruciate ligament tibial footprint location: a 3D-based analysis

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2023
Background The aim of the present study was to identify potential race- or gender-specific differences in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tibial footprint location from the tibia anatomical coordinate system (tACS) origin, investigate the distances from

Tibial Strains are Sensitive to Speed, but not Grade, Perturbations During Running [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
A fatigue-failure process is hypothesized to govern the development of tibial stress fractures, where bone damage is highly dependent on the peak strain magnitude. To date, much of the work examining tibial strains during running has ignored uphill and downhill running despite the prevalence of this terrain.
