Slope Increasing Medial Opening Wedge Proximal Tibial Osteotomy for Preventive Offloading of the Posterior Cruciate Ligament and to Correct Varus Malalignment in the Setting of a Failed Posterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques
The primary role of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is to prevent posterior tibial translation (PTT). PCL graft forces increase as the posterior tibial slope decreases.

Quantifying the Tibiofemoral Joint Space Using X-ray Tomosynthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Purpose: Digital x-ray tomosynthesis (DTS) has the potential to provide 3D information about the knee joint in a load-bearing posture, which may improve diagnosis and monitoring of knee osteoarthritis compared with projection radiography, the current ...

Identification of a Force‐Induced Sox9+Acan+ Transitional Subpopulation Linked to FGF2–FGFR2–ERK Signaling in Orthodontic Bone Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanical loading induces a previously unrecognized Sox9+Acan+ transitional mesenchymal cell population in the periodontal ligament that promotes osteoclastogenesis via the FGF2–FGFR2–ERK axis. Targeting this mechanoresponsive stromal population using a localized GelMA@siRNA delivery strategy attenuates pathological osteoclast overactivation and root ...

Effects of the medial and lateral tibial slope on knee joint kinematics in total knee arthroplasty

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2018
Implant design in total knee arthroplasty is a key factor for the recovery of function and mobility of the joint. However, there is a lack of knowledge on the complex relationship between design features and the biomechanical situation.

Linear and Nonlinear Encoding Properties of an Identified Mechanoreceptor on the Fly wing Measured with Mechanical Noise Stimuli [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The wing blades of most flies contain a small set of distal campaniform sensilla, mechanoreceptors that respond to deformations of the cuticle. This paper describes a method of analysis based upon mechanical noise stimuli which is used to quantify the ...

Resilient Calvarial Bone Marrow Supports Retinal Repair in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Skull bone (calvarium) marrow in diabetic mice stay structurally intact and keeps making blood cells, unlike the bone marrow of the leg bones. The skull marrow is exposed to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which contains protective molecules called oxysterols.

Measurement of Posterior Tibial Slope Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

open access: yesThe archives of bone and joint surgery, 2017
Posterior tibial slope (PTS) is an important factor in the knee joint biomechanics and one of the bone features, which affects knee joint stability. Posterior tibial slope has impact on flexion gap, knee joint stability and posterior femoral rollback that are related to wide range of knee motion. During high tibial osteotomy and total knee arthroplasty

Colorectal Cancer Cell's Weapon: RNF32 Engages SPP1+ Macrophages to Foster Liver Metastasis, Targeted by Indole‐3‐Acetic Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic RNF32 fuels CRC liver metastasis by degrading GSK3β, which stabilizes β‐catenin and activates Wnt/EMT. Moreover, RNF32 rewires the metastatic niche: it depletes CD8+/CD4+ T and NK cells while recruiting SPP1+ macrophages (which boost tumor stemness via CD44), fibroblasts, and immunosuppressive monocytes to aid colonization.

Position-selective activation of peripheral nerve fibers with a cuff electrode [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The degree of spatial selectivity which can be obtained with longitudinal dot tripoles in an insulating cuff was quantified in terms of the overlap between fiber populations activated by different tripoles.
