Comparison of mice and cell cultures for the isolation of tick-borne viruses

Journal of Virological Methods, 1984
Three methods of isolating viruses from 10 tick pools were compared; none of the methods produced all 13 of the viruses isolated (7 viruses of the bunyaviridae and 6 orbiviruses). Inoculation of homogenised ticks into various cell lines was the most successful, yielding 11 virus isolations.

Infection of Macaca radiata with viruses of the tick-borne encephalitis group

Microbial Pathogenesis, 1992
Our studies confirmed the susceptibility of Macaca radiata (bonnet macaques) to Kyasanur Forest disease (KFD) and enabled us to demonstrate KFD virus-specific gastrointestinal and lymphoid lesions. Significant histopathological changes occurred in the small and large intestine, spleen and lymph nodes; and viral antigens were found in these same organs ...

Mixed infections with tick-borne viruses in a seabird colony in Eire

Archives of Virology, 1984
Viruses were isolated from 2 tick species collected from the nesting areas of seabirds on Great Saltee Island, Eire. Bunyaviruses of the Uukuniemi serogroup were isolated from hard ticks (Ixodes uriae and I. rothschildi), bunyaviruses of the Hughes serogroup from soft ticks (Ornithodoros maritimus), and orbiviruses of the Kemerovo serogroup from I ...

RNA In Situ Hybridization to Visualize Tick-Borne Viruses

Visualization of tissue and cellular architecture is essential for understanding the pathobiology of tick-borne virus infection. RNA in situ hybridization (ISH) utilizes specific oligonucleotide probes to detect the presence and specific location of complementary RNA transcript targets within a tissue section.
