Design and testing of a contra-rotating tidal current turbine

open access: yes, 2005
A contra-rotating marine current turbine has a number of attractive features: nearzero reactive torque on the support structure, near-zero swirl in the wake, and high relative inter-rotor rotational speeds.

3D numerical modeling of local scour processes around spur dikes in tidal rivers

open access: yesShui kexue jinzhan, 2012
Accurate prediction of maximum scour depth at groin heads has always been the key concern for the design of spur dikes. The simulation of flow and sediment transport processes around spur dikes in tidal rivers often involves the application of three ...

On the Sensitivity of Typhoon Wave Simulations to Tidal Elevation and Current

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The sensitivity of storm wave simulations to storm tides and tidal currents was investigated using a high-resolution, unstructured-grid, coupled circulation-wave model (Semi-implicit Cross-scale Hydroscience Integrated System Model Wind Wave Model ...

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Patterns and wavelet coherence analysis of tidal dynamics and chlorophyll a concentration [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Environmental Science and Management
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Understanding the correlation between tidal rhythms and marine organism behavior is crucial. This extends beyond fluctuations in chlorophyll a concentrations and includes various biological processes in the marine environment ...

Pharmacologic Modulation of ARID3A with Rimegepant Reactivates Type I Interferon Signaling and Sensitizes Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer to PD‐1 Blockade

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies ARID3A as a key immunosuppressive transcription factor in TNBC. Its inhibition activates the type I IFN pathway, boosting CD8+ T cell infiltration and sensitizing tumors to anti‐PD‐1. The FDA‐approved migraine drug Rimegepant targets ARID3A, enhances immunotherapy efficacy in preclinical models, and establishes a druggable axis to

Hydrodynamic Model for the Water Renewal In The Damietta Port Basin [PDF]

open access: yesPort Said Engineering Research Journal, 2017
Planning and alignment of man-made maritime water areas such Damietta Port, have to be carefully designed to guarantee adequate water exchange between the port basin water and the open sea fresh water. Stagnant water areas could consist in isolated areas,

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.
