A Combined Prognostic Model Based on Machine Learning for Tidal Current Prediction

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2017
This paper proposes a univariate prognostic approach based on wavelet transform and support vector regression (SVR) to predict the tidal current speed and direction with high accuracy. The proposed model decomposes the tidal current data into some subharmonic components.

Comparison of different techniques for short term prediction of tidal current speeds

IEEE PES General Meeting, 2010
Numerous techniques have been suggested for extracting energy from the sea. Tidal current turbines are a convenient method for extracting power from oceanic currents. Regarding the fact that they share many similarities to conventional wind power plants, due to the higher density of sea water they can produce 800 times more power when compared with an ...

Modeling Uncertainty in Tidal Current Forecast Using Prediction Interval-Based SVR

IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, 2017
This paper proposes a prediction interval-based model for modeling the uncertainties of tidal current prediction. The proposed model constructs the optimal prediction intervals (PIs) based on support vector regression (SVR) and a nonparametric method called a lower upper bound estimation (LUBE) method.

Fatigue life prediction of mooring chains for a floating tidal current power station

Journal of Marine Science and Application, 2012
As a kind of clean and renewable energy, tidal current energy is becoming increasingly popular all over the world with the shortage of energy and environmental problems becoming more and more severe. A floating tidal current power station is a typical type of tidal current power transformers which can sustain the loads of wind, waves, and current, and ...

Predicting the vertical structure of tidal current and salinity in San Francisco Bay, California

Water Resources Research, 1990
A two‐dimensional laterally averaged numerical estuarine model is developed to study the vertical variations of tidal hydrodynamic properties in the central/north part of San Francisco Bay, California. Tidal stage data, current meter measurements, and conductivity, temperature, and depth profiling data in San Francisco Bay are used for comparison with ...

Response-based prediction of tidal currents

This study evaluates the response method for predicting tidal currents. We introduce a coupled response model which explicitly accounts for interactions between velocity components. By leveraging non-parametric and data-driven weight estimation, the approach demonstrates superior predictive accuracy compared to classical harmonic analysis (HA ...
