Framing Modern Slavery: Do Stakeholders Talk Past Each Other?

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Administrative Sciences / Revue Canadienne des Sciences de l'Administration, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Modern slavery literature has thus far mostly adopted a downstream perspective, in the sense that researchers investigated corporate actors' responses after the enactment of transparency legislation. The common finding is that corporate disclosure is poor and ineffective, contributing to a failure to eradicate modern slavery.

Modeling Supports Combinatorial Effects Between Pharmacological and Non‐Pharmacological Interventions to Prevent Opioid‐Induced Cardiac Arrest

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Few studies have quantified the effects of non‐pharmacological interventions (e.g., rescue breathing) in the setting of community opioid overdose. We extended a previously validated model for opioid antagonists by incorporating the mechanism of rescue breathing, and quantified combinatorial effects between rescue breathing and various formulations of ...

Cross-shore parallel tidal channel systems formed by alongshore currents

open access: yesNature Communications
Parallel tidal channel systems, characterized by commonly cross-shore orientation and regular spacing, represent a distinct class of tidal channel networks in coastal environments worldwide.

ESTUARINE CURRENTS AND TIDAL STREAMS

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1960
Fresh water spreading out from the mouth of a river as it enters a salt sea may preserve its identity for a considerable distance on the surface if wind-generated waves, longshore currents and tidal streams are capable of producing only weak mixing. Fig.

Butterflies of curriculum realisation: Investigating early implementation of the Curriculum for Wales

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Curriculum reform provides a vital opportunity for nations to ensure learners are equipped to fully participate as citizens in the 21st century. This paper presents an understanding of educators’ response to curriculum reform, and some of its enablers and barriers.

A decade long high-resolution wave resource map for Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters - hindcast by two-way coupling of wave-current models

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Wave energy is a promising renewable resource globally, with the UK leading efforts in regions like Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters. These areas, known for their strong tidal currents and energetic waves, require accurate wave energy resource ...

High Resolution Current & Bathymetry Determined by Nautical X-Band Radar in Shallow Waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The wave and current monitoring system WaMoS II is a remote sensing system based on a nautical X-Band radar generally used for navigation and ship traffic control.

Close binary evolution I. The tidally induced shear mixing in rotating binaries

open access: yes, 2013
We study how tides in a binary system induce some specific internal shear mixing, able to substantially modify the evolution of close binaries prior to mass transfer. We construct numerical models accounting for tidal interactions, meridional circulation,

Trends in marine species distribution models: a review of methodological advances and future challenges

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Correlative species distribution models (SDMs) are quantitative tools in biogeography and macroecology. Building upon the ecological niche concept, they correlate environmental covariates to species presence to model habitat suitability and predict species distributions.

Flooding and Inundation Modeling in the Great Bay Estuary [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
As part of this research, FVCOM, a finite-volume coastal ocean numerical hydrodynamic model (Chen, et al., 2003), was implemented into the Great Bay estuary.
