Assessment of Tidal and Wave Energy Resource Potential in Malaysia with Sea Level Rise Effects

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Ocean energy, e.g., waves, tidal current, and thermal and salinity gradient, can be used to produce electricity. These marine-based renewable energy technologies are at relatively early stages of development and potentially deployed at various sea ...

Ocean energy in Europe

open access: yesInternational Marine Energy Journal, 2018
The SET-Plan declaration of intent for ocean energy has set ambitious targets for wave and tidal energy technologies. Tidal technologies are expected to reach a levelised cost of energy (LCOE) of 15 cEUR/kWh by 2025. To meet this target, technology costs

Compliant hydrogel cuff coating with real‐time pressure monitoring and antibiofilm capabilities for ventilator‐associated pneumonia prophylaxis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A soft‐compliant hydrogel cuff coating combines real‐time pressure monitoring with intrinsic antibacterial activity for prophylaxis of ventilator‐associated pneumonia. A flexible pressure‐sensing patch is embedded in the coating to enable wireless dynamic monitoring of endotracheal cuff pressure through Bluetooth.

How wildlife respond to tropical cyclones: short‐term tactics and long‐term impacts

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT From butterflies to lizards and from sharks to seabirds, wildlife exhibit tactics to survive the impacts of tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons depending on where they occur. Some species seek refuge during the storm by moving, some remain in place and ride it out, and others move longer distances, avoiding the ...

Carrion ecology: concepts, interdisciplinary synthesis, and perspectives

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Carrion is a ubiquitous resource in both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, yet it has long been overlooked in ecological research. Over the past two decades, studies on carrion and the many organisms that exploit it have flourished, revealing not only wide‐ranging ecological functions but also significance far beyond ecology.

Impact of sea level rise on tidal energy budget in a macro-tidal coastal bay with archipelago

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
With sea level rise (SLR), tidal nuisance flooding has become a growing threat, especially around estuaries with large tidal amplitudes. This study investigated how sea level change affects tides in Hangzhou Bay, a macro-tidal estuary with high SLR rate.

Addressing the Energy Trilemma: The Role of Entrepreneurship, Regulation, and Climate Finance

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Balancing energy security, energy equity, and environmental sustainability has become increasingly challenging as economies pursue low‐carbon growth amid climate risk and persistent disparities in access to modern energy. Although entrepreneurship is widely recognized as a driver of innovation, its role in addressing the energy trilemma ...
