STRATIFIED ADAPTATION: Infrastructure, Elevation, and Cascading Floods in the Urban Mekong Delta

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Flood‐prone cities in the global South are increasingly the target of infrastructure projects aimed at building climate ‘resilience’. At the same time, residents of these cities take adaptation to flooding into their own hands. In this article we examine the interrelationship between household‐scale and urban‐scale flood mitigation projects in

300 Years of Degradation in Wales Estuaries and Coasts

open access: yesNatural Resources Forum, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The world's oceans are in a severe state of degradation, yet our understanding of that degradation is often based on changes observed only in the past 20–50 years. This narrow view leads to marine conservation efforts that aim to preserve already degraded ecosystems, shaped by shifted ecological baselines.

The Australian Hydromyine Rodents—Their Interspecific Diversity and Reproductive Biology: A Review

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
There are two major groups, the Rattus species and the Hydromyini, in Australia. Clearly, the hydromyine rodents, unlike the Rattus genus, exhibit a diverse array of reproductive biological traits in both males and females, the full evolutionary significance of which has yet to be ascertained.

Breeding Dispersal of Baltic Dunlins Is Not an Adaptive Response to Unpredictable Nest Flooding

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Flood‐related nest losses of the Baltic dunlin (Calidris alpina schinzii) have drastically increased over the past two decades. Using 20 years of reproductive data from 184 individuals, we found that between‐year and within‐site dispersal tended to increase following nest failure in males.

Spatiotemporal variations of Manning’s roughness coefficient in the estuary of Langsa River based on field measurements and hydraulic modeling

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies
Study region: Langsa City is one of Indonesia's coastal areas prone to flooding due to tidal flows and seasonal rainfall. Study focus: This study aims to determine the Manning roughness coefficient (n) dynamically using the Manning distribution ...
