In-stream tidal energy potential of Puget Sound, Washington

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2009
The far-field, barotropic effects of in-stream tidal energy extraction from Puget Sound are quantified using a one-dimensional channel model. In-stream turbines are modelled in regions of energetic flow in northern Admiralty Inlet and Tacoma Narrows. The far-field extraction effects include changes to the tide (amplitude and phase), transport, power ...

Numerical assessment of tidal stream energy resource in Langyatai strait

2012 Oceans - Yeosu, 2012
In the present work, the tidal stream energy resource in Langyatai (LYT) strait was calculated based on tidal current velocity. To obtain the tidal current velocity, a tidal current numerical model was setup and validated by measurements of tidal current in 2 points around LYT strait with observing period of 25 hours in spring tide.

Device interactions in reducing the cost of tidal stream energy

Energy Conversion and Management, 2015
Abstract The levelised cost of energy takes into account the lifetime generated energy and the costs associated with a project. The objective of this work is to investigate the effects of device interactions on the energy output and, therefore, on the levelised cost of energy of a tidal stream project, by means of numerical modelling.

Design of Shallow Foundations for Tidal-Stream Energy Structures

2020
Tidal-stream (tidal) energy is a renewable form of energy produced by harnessing the kinetic energy of marine currents created by the rise and fall of the tides and converting it into electricity. To-date, tidal energy development remains largely in the demonstration stage and the development community has not rallied behind any one foundation ...
