Hydrodynamic Effects of Tidal-Stream Power Extraction for Varying Turbine Operating Conditions

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Realistic evaluation of tidal-stream power extraction effects on local hydrodynamics requires the inclusion of the turbine’s operating conditions (TOC).

Surrogate-based optimization of tidal turbine arrays: a case study for the Faro-Olhão inlet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This paper presents a study for estimating the size of a tidal turbine array for the Faro-Olhão Inlet (Potugal) using a surrogate optimization approach. The method compromises problem formulation, hydro-morphodynamic modelling, surrogate construction and

Economic analysis of tidal stream turbine arrays: a review

open access: yes, 2021
This tidal stream energy industry has to date been comprised of small demonstrator projects made up of one to a four turbines. However, there are currently plans to expand to commercially sized projects with tens of turbines or more. As the industry moves to large-scale arrays for the first time, there has been a push to develop tools to optimise the ...

Modelling impacts of tidal stream turbines on surface waves [PDF]

open access: yesRenewable Energy, 2019
Abstract A high resolution Computational Flow Dynamics (CFD) numerical model is built based on a laboratory experiment in this research to study impacts of tidal turbines on surface wave dynamics. A reduction of ∼ 3 % in wave height is observed under the influence of a standalone turbine located 0.4 m from the free surface.

An Investigation of Tidal Stream Turbine Wake Development Using Modified BEM–AD Model

open access: yesEnergies
Tidal stream turbines (TST) are a promising option for electricity generation to meet the ever-increasing demand for energy. The actuator disk (AD) method is often employed to represent a TST, to evaluate the TST operating in a tidal flow.

Response‐Based Prediction of Tidal Currents

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 130, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract This study evaluates the response method for predicting tidal currents. We introduce a coupled response model which explicitly accounts for interactions between velocity components. By leveraging non‐parametric and data‐driven weight estimation, the approach demonstrates superior predictive accuracy compared to classical harmonic analysis (HA),

Potential of sugarcane bagasse as feedstock for biogas production in Nigeria

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, Volume 19, Issue 6, Page 2092-2104, November/December 2025.
Abstract The Nigerian government’s interest in expanding the sugar sector has significantly increased sugarcane production, generating substantial bagasse by‐products without adequate waste management strategies. This study examined the potential of sugarcane bagasse as a biogas feedstock by integrating a socioeconomic survey of 120 sugarcane farmers ...
