Star Clusters in the Tidal Tails of Interacting Galaxies: Cluster Populations Across a Variety of Tail Environments

open access: yes, 2011
We have searched for compact stellar structures within 17 tidal tails in 13 different interacting galaxies using F606W- and F814W- band images from the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC2) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).

HI Observations of Interacting Galaxy Pair NGC 4038/9 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present the results of new radio interferometer HI line observations for the merging galaxy pair NGC 4038/9 (`The Antennae'), obtained using the Australia Telescope Compact Array.

Neuronal Cholesterol Deficiency Mediated by Astrocytic SREBP2 Downregulation Leads to Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction Through Impairment of Hippocampal Synaptic Plasticity and Excitatory Synaptic Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The results showed that the reduction of plasma 24‐hydroxycholesterol (24‐OHC) was related to the cognitive decline in elderly surgical patients. Neuroinflammation induced by anesthesia and surgery significantly downregulated SREBP2 in hippocampal reactive astrocytes, resulting in reduced cholesterol synthesis.

On the characteristics of tidal structures of interacting galaxies

open access: yes, 2011
We present the results of our analysis of the geometrical tidal tail characteristics for nearby and distant interacting galaxies. The sample includes more than two hundred nearby galaxies and about seven hundred distant ones.

Star Forming Objects in the Tidal Tails of Compact Groups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A search for star forming objects belonging to tidal tails has been carried out in a sample of deep Halpha images of 16 compact groups of galaxies. A total of 36 objects with Halpha luminosity larger than 10^38 erg s-1 have been detected in five groups ...

Inactivation Rap2a in Endothelial Cell Prevents Pulmonary Fibrosis by Regulating Immune Microenvironment Through MAP4K4‐VCAM1 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We identified the endothelial RAP2A as a regulator of inflammatory endothelial activation in experimental lung fibrosis and suggest that targeting RAP2A‐mediated signaling may represent a potential strategy to modulate endothelial–immune crosstalk during fibrotic lung injury.

Taxonomic and functional shifts in soil nematode communities following estuarine island reclamation

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution
Coastal land reclamation dramatically alters ecosystem structure and trajectories of ecological succession, yet knowledge about soil faunal colonization and community assembly in reclaimed coastal land is scarce.

Remote Activation of Spinal TRPV1 by Magnetic Nanocubes Confers Cardioprotection Against Myocardial Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fe‐based magnetic nanocubes conjugated with TRPV1 antibodies (FeNCs‐TRPV1) are developed for the specific targeting of TRPV1 channels. Intraspinally injected FeNCs‐TRPV1 induces TRPV1 desensitization in rats exposed to repetitive and transient ACMF.

Discovery of Tidal Tails in Disrupting Open Clusters: Coma Berenices and a Neighbor Stellar Group [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2019
We report the discovery of tidal structures around the intermediate-aged (∼700–800 Myr), nearby (∼85 pc) star cluster Coma Berenices. The spatial and kinematic grouping of stars is determined with the Gaia DR2 parallax and proper motion data, by a ...

Animal models of benign airway stenosis: Advances in construction techniques, evaluation systems, and perspectives

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Currently, the animals commonly used to establish animal models of benign airway stenosis (BAS) include mice, rats, pigs, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets. The establishment methods involve one or a combination of two methods such as mechanical injury, tracheal cautery, cuff overpressure intubation, laser injury, and endoscopic silver nitrate cauterization ...
