Experimental evaluation of the wake characteristics of cross flow turbine arrays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
One key factor in the exploitation of tidal energy is the study of interactions of turbines when working in tidal turbine farms. The Momentum Reversal and Lift (MRL) turbine is a novel cross flow turbine.

Marine Mammals in the Anthropocene: Developing a Systematic Evidence Base of Threats to Nineteen Species

open access: yesMammal Review, Volume 56, Issue 1, March 2026.
Marine mammals are vulnerable to a variety of anthropogenic threats, yet a global systematic map of the literature for 19 species found both spatial and temporal disparity in research effort between threats and between species. There are knowledge gaps for species and threats, with effort unequal across many species' ranges.

Investigation on Wake Characteristics of Two Tidal Stream Turbines in Tandem Using a Mobile Submerged PIV System

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Understanding wake interactions between multiple tidal stream turbines is essential for optimizing the performance and layout of tidal energy farms.

Estimating the stability of a bed protection of a weir-mounted tidal turbine

open access: yesInternational Marine Energy Journal, 2020
Coastal infrastructure, such as bridges and storm surge barriers with weirs, provides an attractive location for harvesting renewable energy using tidal turbines.

Investigations on the performances of the electrical generator of a rim-driven marine current turbine” [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, the electrical generator of a rim-driven horizontal-axis current turbine is modeled in detail. Its main characteristics and performances are evaluated (efficiency, mass, cost, etc).

Evaluating the Risk of Collision of Seals Swimming Within Metres of Operating Tidal Turbines

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT We used imaging sonar to continuously monitor wildlife at an operational tidal turbine in the Pentland Firth, Scotland, between May 2022 and June 2023. Of 704 detected seal tracks, 347 occurred during turbine operation and 122 of these were detected directly upstream of the rotating blades in the horizontal plane.

Rotor Loading Characteristics of a Full-Scale Tidal Turbine

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Tidal turbines are subject to highly dynamic mechanical loading through operation in some of the most energetic waters. If these loads cannot be accurately quantified at the design stage, turbine developers run the risk of a major failure, or must choose

An innovative approach for energy generation from waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Sustainable energy generation is becoming increasingly important due to the expected limitations in current energy resources and to reduce pollution. Wave energy generation has seen significant development in recent years.
