Numerical Investigation of Transonic Axial Compressor Rotor With Leading‐Edge Tubercles
Amplitude, wavelength, and span‐wise location of the leading‐edge tubercles on a transonic NASA Rotor 37 compressor are numerically optimized. An increase in efficiency by 0.52% compared to the corresponding baseline rotor is observed. The location of the shockwave moves downstream of the rotor with 1.91% higher pressure.

A Conceptual Framework and Methods for Studying the Connectivity of Fishes
ABSTRACT Connectivity is a multifaceted concept that has important implications for the management and conservation of marine and freshwater fishes. We developed a conceptual framework that encompasses multiple, interrelated categories of connectedness, including landscape (e.g., structural, functional) connectivity and ecological (e.g., trophic ...

Hydrodynamic loadings on a horizontal axis tidal turbine prototype [PDF]
Until recently tidal stream turbine design has been carried out mainly by experimental prototype testing aiming at maximum turbine efficiency. The harsh and highly turbulent environments in which tidal stream turbines operate in poses a design challenge ...

Marine mammals are vulnerable to a variety of anthropogenic threats, yet a global systematic map of the literature for 19 species found both spatial and temporal disparity in research effort between threats and between species. There are knowledge gaps for species and threats, with effort unequal across many species' ranges.

Abstract The study investigated whether bicycle compared with car commuting, over relatively small distances, has positive effects on physiological variables, cardiometabolic fitness and CO2 output in the atmosphere. Bike Commuters (11 M, 15 F; age [median value (interquartile range)] 51.5 (38.3–56.8) years; body mass index [BMI] 22.8 (21.0–24.1) kg m ...

The distribution and tapping tidal energy
Tidal power along tidal shores has been used for centuries to run small tidal mills. Generating electricity by tapping tidal power proved to be very successful only in the last century through the tidal power plant constructed in 1967 in La Rance,

One-Dimensional Modelling of Marine Current Turbine Runaway Behaviour
If a turbine loses its electrical load, it will rotate freely and increase speed, eventually achieving that rotational speed which produces zero net torque. This is known as a runaway situation.

Contra-rotating marine current turbines : single point tethered floating system - stabilty and performance [PDF]
The Energy Systems Research Unit within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde has developed a novel contra-rotating tidal turbine (CoRMaT). A series of tank and sea tests have led to the development and deployment of a
