Unsteady wake modelling for tidal current turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The authors present a numerical model for three-dimensional unsteady wake calculations for tidal turbines. Since wakes are characterised by the shedding of a vortex sheet from the rotor blades, the model is based on the vorticity transport equations.

Impaired nitric oxide‐dependent endothelial function in young male individuals with obesity before the onset of symptoms and complications

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 3, Page 1134-1149, 1 March 2026.
Abstract Endothelial dysfunction drives obesity‐related complications. Doppler ultrasound measurement of blood flow during 1‐min passive leg movements (PLM) is a valuable non‐invasive tool for assessing endothelial function and nitric oxide (NO)‐mediated vasodilation.

A tidal energy assessment in the strait of Messina

open access: yesEnergy Nexus
This study reports an energy assessment of a tidal power plant located in the strait of Messina (Mediterranean Sea). Tidal currents are not adequately exploited as renewable energy sources all over the world, even if their potential is not negligible and

Potential Hydrodynamic Impacts and Performances of Commercial-Scale Turbine Arrays in the Strait of Larantuka, Indonesia

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The Strait of Larantuka, with highly energetic tidal stream currents reaching speeds of up to 3−4 m/s, is a promising site for renewable electricity production from the ocean. This paper presents the results of an assessment regarding the potential

Breathing technique‐dependent acute cardiopulmonary responses during squats in healthy females

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 6, March 2026.
Abstract Breath‐holding (BH), including variations of the Valsalva maneuver, is used during resistance exercise to stabilize the trunk and increase intra‐abdominal pressure. However, its hemodynamic and ventilatory effects during low‐to‐moderate intensity strength training in women remain unclear.

Chapter Tidal Turbine Generators

open access: yes, 2020
Recently, tidal stream turbines have become a preferable mode of harvesting tidal energy. The main issue for low utilization of tidal energy is the high levelized cost of energy (LCoE) from tidal stream turbines. A major reason for this is the high operation and maintenance costs for submerged installations.

Evaluating the Risk of Collision of Seals Swimming Within Metres of Operating Tidal Turbines

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT We used imaging sonar to continuously monitor wildlife at an operational tidal turbine in the Pentland Firth, Scotland, between May 2022 and June 2023. Of 704 detected seal tracks, 347 occurred during turbine operation and 122 of these were detected directly upstream of the rotating blades in the horizontal plane.

Designing multi-rotor tidal turbine fences

open access: yesInternational Marine Energy Journal, 2018
An embedded Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes blade element actuator disk model is used to investigate the hydrodynamic design of tidal turbines and their performance in a closely spaced cross-stream fence. Turbines designed for confined flows are found to
