Are Bankruptcies Healthy For The Tight Oil Sector?

open access: yes, 2021
Between January 2015 and mid-2020, about 69 of the approximately 2,160 small-to-medium independent oil companies operating in the tight oil sector filed for Chapter 11 protection. These filings mostly occurred in 2016 and 2019. A lack of financial discipline and poor financial risk assessment meant that these companies were negatively impacted by the ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Complexity Model for Predicting Oil Displacement by Imbibition after Fracturing in Tight-Oil Reservoirs

open access: yes, 2023
With the increasing difficulty of conventional oil and gas exploration and development, oil and gas resources have developed from conventional to unconventional, and the exploration and development of tight-oil reservoirs are highly valued.

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Investment and production dynamics of conventional oil and unconventional tight oil : Implications for oil markets and climate strategies

open access: yes, 2020
Unconventional tight oil production has increased fast in recent years. This development can appear threatening to climate change mitigation efforts as more available supply might lead to continuing or increasing consumption, contributing to ‘carbon lock-
