Flow Units: From Conventional to Tight-Gas to Shale-Gas to Tight-Oil to Shale-Oil Reservoirs
SPE Reservoir Evaluation & Engineering, 2013Summary Core data from various North American basins with the support of limited amounts of data from other basins around the world have shown in the past that process speed or delivery speed (the ratio of permeability to porosity) provides a continuum between conventional, tight-, and shale-gas reservoirs (Aguilera 2010a).

Steam Injection in Tight Oil Reservoir
SPE Improved Oil Recovery Conference, 2018Abstract Steam injection—a thermal-based enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process—is used to improve fluid mobility within a reservoir, and it is well known that it yields positive results in heavy-oil reservoirs. In theory, steam injection has the potential of being applied in light-oil reservoirs to enable vaporization of in-situ reservoir ...

An oil-free gas-tight compressor
Journal of Scientific Instruments, 1951A new non-contaminating piston-type compressor is described. A highly flexible rubber diaphragm behind the piston acts as a gas-tight gland and also separates the lubricated parts which drive and guide the piston from the space swept out by the piston itself, in which there is no fluid lubricant.

Analysis of North‐American Tight oil production
AIChE Journal, 2017North‐American tight oil production has been on the rise due to the introduction of new drilling and hydraulic fracturing technologies. Such advances have dramatically changed the conventional understanding of the hydrocarbon recovery process. A dimensionless study of tight oil production across the United Sates in plays such as the Bakken, Niobrara ...

Digital geophones and exploration of tight oil
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2014, 2014Geophones are key instruments used for seismic data acquisition, and the quality of seismic data acquired for prospecting depends directly on their performance. With the development of geophysical prospecting technologies and high-resolution exploration requirements, especially in tight marl oil exploration, an increased demand on the accuracy and ...

Evaluation of Enhanced Oil Recovery Application in Tight-Oil Formations
2021The rapid decline rates and low oil recovery factor (typically less than 10% of the original oil in place) of primary production are well-known challenges in the development of tight-oil formations. Several enhanced-oil-recovery studies and field trials have been conducted with promising results in these formations, however, key oil-recovery mechanisms

Optimizing the Development of Tight Oil Formations
SPE/EAGE European Unconventional Resources Conference and Exhibition, 2014Abstract Substantial hydrocarbon reserves remain trapped in reservoirs that are characterized as tight, oil-wet, and fractured. The aforementioned reservoir characteristics are typical to shale formations, and significantly degrade hydrocarbon recovery efficiency because of well productivity, in addition to reservoir, capillary and sweep

Strategic Delineation of a Tight Oil Play
SPE Unconventional Resources Conference, 2014Abstract This paper describes a comprehensive methodology to rank drilling locations in a very large, unconventional tight-oil area based on both surface and subsurface characteristics. A North American case study is presented. Operators entering new prospect areas with little well control must make decisions on locating ...
