Pore-throat sizes in sandstones, tight sandstones, and shales

AAPG Bulletin, 2009
Pore-throat sizes in siliciclastic rocks form a continuum from the submillimeter to the nanometer scale. That continuum is documented in this article using previously published data on the pore and pore-throat sizes of conventional reservoir rocks, tight-gas sandstones, and shales.

Pore-throat sizes in sandstones, tight sandstones, and shales: Discussion

AAPG Bulletin, 2011
Wayne K. Camp Nelson (2009) prepared a nice compilation describing the wide range of pore-throat sizes that span a continuum from conventional sandstone reservoirs to unconventional tight-gas siliciclastic reservoirs and shale seals. In this article, Nelson (2009) proposes a new and rather unique definition for unconventional reservoirs (including ...

Microcrack Permeability in Tight Gas Sandstone

Society of Petroleum Engineers Journal, 1983
Abstract A model of stress-dependent permeability was developed on the basis of flow through cracks. The compliance of the cracks is controlled by elastic deformation of a Gaussian distribution of surface asperities, indented into the opposing crack face.

Anisotropic Rock Physics Modeling for Tight Sandstone

Proceedings, 2015
One distinguishing feature of low-porosity and low-permeability sandstones is the departure of the behavior of their elastic properties from that of general porous and permeable sands. This paper put forward the method to integrate rock physics model in tight sandstones due to the properties of developed cracks and its effect on tight sand.

3D Tight Sandstone Digital Rock Reconstruction with Deep Learning

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2021
Abstract Tight oil and gas reservoirs have attracted an increasing amount of attentions and have become one of the focus of research field in recent years. Tight sandstones have complex pore structures and narrow pores and throats with pore sizes varying from nanometers to micrometers, and studying flow mechanisms in tight sandstones is of great ...

Effect of Chelating Agents on Tight Sandstone Formation Mineralogy During Sandstone Acidizing

Petrophysics – The SPWLA Journal of Formation Evaluation and Reservoir Description, 2023
Dissolution of the wellbore damage is the main target of sandstone acidizing. The presence of minerals like clays, feldspar, zeolites, and alumino-silicates makes acidizing a challenging task because they may form undesired products (precipitates) when reacted with mud acid.

Tight Sandstone Reservoir Waterflooding Efficiency Study

SPE Annual Caspian Technical Conference & Exhibition, 2016
Abstract PetroKazakhstan Kumkol Resources JSC (PKKR JSC) has a number of assets, one of which is the RP oilfield. It has been operated without reservoir pressure maintenance. Reservoir is made of tight sandstone with permeability getting as low as 1 md.

Fluid Flow Modeling in Tight Carboniferous Sandstone

Proceedings, 2013
Permeability of rock samples was the object of analysis. In the standard approach permeability values are determined from the laboratory measurements using permeameters. There are distinct limitations for used equipment for such measurements. In the presented case rock permeability was calculated by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

A study on effective medium theories in tight sandstone

International Geophysical Conference, Shenzhen, China, November 7–10, 2011, 2011
The tight sandstone gas reservoirs in the central Sichuan basin are characterized by wide distribution and low abundance. Sandstone samples from this area usually have low porosity and poor connectivity. This paper analyzes the laboratory data of tight sandstone samples with four different inclusion models based on effective medium theory and compares ...

Acidizing Treatments for Tight Gas Sandstone Reservoirs

International Petroleum Technology Conference, 2009
This reference is for an abstract only. A full paper was not submitted for this conference. Abstract Stimulation of tight gas sandstone reservoirs is a challenge due to many variables contributed into acidizing efficiency such acids type, concentration, volume, stages, injection rate, reservoir ...
