Petrophysics from the air to improve understanding of rock properties in the UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Electromagnetic geophysical applications exploit a petrophysical relationship governing the electrical properties of rocks. Given the extensive nature of many airborne electromagnetic surveys it seems natural to classify, and hence simplify, the ...

Rate Dependency of Capillary Heterogeneity Trapping for CO2 Storage

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract In this paper, we experimentally quantify and analytically model rate dependent capillary heterogeneity trapping. Capillary heterogeneity trapping enhances non‐wetting fluid trapping beyond pore‐scale residual trapping through the isolation of non‐wetting phase upstream of heterogeneities in the continuum capillary pressure characteristics ...

High Temperature Friction and Strength of Felsite and Basalt: Implications for Supercritical EGS at Krafla, Iceland

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract One promising potential site for extracting supercritical geothermal fluids is the Krafla volcano, Iceland, into which a borehole was drilled very close to a shallow rhyolite magma chamber at about 2 km depth. Besides the technical challenge to drill in this setting, the extreme temperature conditions of T > 900°C close to the magma body may ...

Volumetric acid fracturing technology of offshore tight sandstone gas reservoirs

open access: yesYouqicang pingjia yu kaifa, 2020
The stimulation of offshore tight sandstone gas reservoirs is influenced by several factors. In order to promote the efficient development of offshore tight sandstone gas reservoirs, volumetric acid fracturing technology of offshore tight sandstone gas ...

Seismic Stratigraphy and Tectonic Evolution of the Forearc Georgia Basin (Upper Cretaceous–Miocene), Canada and USA, With Implications for CO2 Sequestration

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
2D seismic and well data reveal multi‐phase basin filling in the Whatcom Sub‐Basin shaped by syn‐depositional tectonism. An Eocene transition from forearc basin to forearc depression corresponds to decreasing normal‐fault density and throw, both upsection and eastward. Paleogene–Neogene strata are the best CO2 storage targets.

Logging evaluation method of fracturability of tight sandstone reservoirs

open access: yesYouqi dizhi yu caishoulu
The fracturability of reservoirs is an essential parameter for selecting perforation stages and predicting hydraulic fracturing effects, but fracturability evaluation for tight sandstone reservoirs lacks unified methods and standards. This paper studies Chang 6 tight sandstone reservoir in an oilfield in the southeastern part of Ordos Basin and ...

Biogeographical Regionalisation of Southern Africa Using Tenebrionid Beetles: A Multi‐Scale Analysis of Diversity and Environmental Drivers

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Southern Africa's remarkable environmental heterogeneity drives high biodiversity and endemism, yet biogeographical regionalisations often overlook invertebrates despite their ecological significance. This study presents a comprehensive regionalisation of southern Africa using tenebrionid beetles (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), a diverse and ...

Microscopic Pore–Throat Architecture and Fractal Heterogeneity in Tight Sandstone Reservoirs: Insights from the Denglouku Formation, Xujiaweizi Fault Depression

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The heterogeneity of the microscopic pore structure in tight sandstone reservoirs is a key factor limiting the efficient development of natural gas. This study focuses on the tight sandstone of the Denglouku Formation in the Lower Cretaceous region of ...

Adsorption Preceding Wetting Front Controls Seismic Velocity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Rock elasticity varies with both humidity and water saturation, yet their combined effects remain poorly understood, although in nature vapor adsorption and liquid infiltration occur simultaneously. Here, we present experimental data of P‐wave velocity and volume expansion in a free‐standing sandstone subject to progressive wetting.
