Kürschak’s tile

The Mathematical Gazette, 1978
Why is such a nice result rarely, if ever, found in texts? Perhaps because it is usually necessary to use trigonometry to calculate the areas of regular polygons. A regular n-gon inscribed in a unit circle has an area n times that of the isosceles triangle having an edge as base and the ...

RESTARTING TILING AUTOMATA

International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science, 2012
We present a new model of a two-dimensional computing device called restarting tiling automaton. The automaton defines a set of tile-rewriting, weight-reducing rules and a scanning strategy by which a tile to rewrite is being searched. We investigate properties of the induced families of picture languages.

Multiresolution Tiling

Computer Graphics Forum, 1994
AbstractThis paper describes an efficient method for constructing a tiling between a pair of planar contours. The problem is of interest in a number of domains, including medical imaging, biological research and geological reconstructions. Our method, based on ideas from multiresolution analysis and wavelets, requires O(n) space and appears to require ...

Uniform Tilings with Hollow Tiles

1981
Tilings of the plane in which each tile is a closed topological disk, or some other simple kind of set, have been extensively studied from many points of view; see [18]. Of special interest are tilings whose tiles are regular polygons; there are many such tilings and they occur frequently in practical applications.

On Self-Tiling Tile Sets

Mathematics Magazine, 2012
A novel species of self-similar tilings is introduced. Results divide naturally into two categories, involving either polyforms or non-polyforms.

Tiles

Proceedings of the International Working Conference on Advanced Visual Interfaces, 2016
We present the groundwork for Tiles: an inventor toolbox to support the development of interactive objects by non-experts. Tiles is composed by (i) a set of physical input/output primitives to describe interaction styles with technology-augmented objects, (ii) extensible hardware modules easily embeddable in everyday things that implement the ...
