Provenance Variation in Functional Traits of European Forest Trees: Meta‐Analysis Reveals Effects of Taxa and Age Despite Critical Research Gaps

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
This meta‐analysis on intraspecific variation in European trees studied the frequency of provenance variation, provenance–environment interaction, clinal variation along the climate of origin or transfer distance. While identifying trait group specific patterns of variation, research gaps have been identified in terms of age and geographical ...

Farmland trees and integrated pest management: A review of current knowledge and developing strategies for sustainable systems

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 6, Issue 3, July–September 2025.
Conceptual figure representing the three topics assessed in this review. Components include the crops, invertebrates, and trees and their arrangements. Interactions refer to the dynamic relationships between these components and management interventions. Opportunities include the measuring, promotion, better use of resources, research and demonstration

The Presence of Alternative Tree Species in European Beech Forests Drives Change in Functional Diversity and Composition of Forest Floor Plant Communities

open access: yesJournal of Vegetation Science, Volume 36, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
Admixing alternative tree species in European beech forests is associated with changes in the functional diversity and composition of forest floor vegetation. Higher functional richness and divergence were observed in stands containing Douglas fir, silver fir, or sessile oak, while shifts in trait composition varied depending on tree species and site ...

Genotyping-by-Sequencing Analysis Shows That Siberian Lindens Are Nested within Tilia cordata Mill

open access: yesDiversity, 2022
Tilia sibirica and T. nasczokinii are considered to be endemic Siberian linden species. They have very small distributions located hundreds to thousands of kilometers away from other lindens.

Effects of road traffic on bark pH and epiphytic lichens in Tallinn [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The relationships between traffic-related air pollution, bark pH and epiphytic lichen mycota on Pinus sylvestris and Tilia cordata were studied. Traffic is considered the main source of air pollution in Tallinn and, therefore, greatly influences lichen ...

Sugar Maple Litter Decay Rates Are Reduced More Strongly by Drought Than by American Beech Proliferation in the Understory

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2025.
Tree litter decay rates were estimated for 36 species (3) × rainfall exclusion (2) × American beech proliferation (2) × bag mesh size (3) treatment combinations. Rainfall exclusion dominated effects on instantaneous litter mass loss rates. Beech proliferation in the understory and bag mesh‐size differences exerted much more subtle effects.

Peculiarities of accumulation of heavy metals from aerogenic industrial emissions in leaves of arboreal plants

open access: yesІнтродукція Рослин, 2014
A level and rates of accumulation of Zn, Ni, Pb and Cd are determined, in the leaves of arboreal plants in the conditions of different levels of contamination.

Flower power: Modeling floral resources of wild cherry (Prunus avium L.) for bee pollinators based on 3D data

open access: yesEcology, Volume 106, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Pollinator declines pose a threat to ecosystems and food production. Agriculture contributes to, but also suffers from, the erosion of pollination services. Our study explores the potential of trees in agricultural landscapes to support pollinators by providing floral resources.

The configuration of events and cell growth activity in the storeyed cambium of the linden (Tilia cordata Mill.)

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
A sample of wood from the trunk of the studied linden showed a periodic change in the orientation of the grain, occurring in an approximately two-year cycle.

ECOLOGICAL FEATURES OF DENROFLORAS OF IRON DUMPS IN KRYVORIZHZHYA (UKRAINE) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plant individuals are very sensitive to changes in environmental parameters, as they are a fairly labile component of ecosystems. Each plant species has a specific range of environmental conditions in which it can exist – the tolerance amplitude ...
