Managing for resilience with ecological structure: Portfolio effects in the Laurentian Great Lakes

Combined effects of global change, including land conversion, biological invasions, and overexploitation, have degraded the resilience of ecosystems and the services they provide. Here, we identify key ecological structures and processes that can be targeted by management to improve resilience at scales ranging from single species to entire landscapes.

We introduce a basic theory of tilings, continuous hulls and tiling dynamical systems with detailed proofs. As a way to construct interesting tilings, tiling substitution is investigated. Abstract Objective Maternal obesity and excess gestational weight gain (GWG) are linked to adverse perinatal outcomes, potentially via disruption of the maternal–fetal stress axis. Hepatic Encephalopathy and Age Were Assessed to Ameliorate the Underestimation of the Model for End‐Stage Liver Disease Score in Patients With Acute‐on‐Chronic Liver Failure

This study demonstrates that the model for end‐stage liver disease (MELD) score significantly underestimates 90‐day mortality in acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF) patients (AUC: 0.556) compared to non‐ACLF patients (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUC]: 0.848).
