Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

Improvement of Image Alignment Using Camera Attitude Information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We discuss a proposed technique for incorporation of information from a variety of sensors in a video imagery processing pipeline. The auxiliary information allows one to simplify computations, effectively reducing the number of independent parameters in

Thermal Phase‐Modulation of Thickness‐Dependent CVD‐Grown 2D In2Se3

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of CVD‐grown 2D In2Se3 reveals a distinct thickness‐dependent phase landscape and a reversible, thermally driven transformation between β″ and β* variants. In situ TEM electron diffraction and Raman spectroscopy reveal structural dynamics, while the structural invariance of the α‐phase in ultrathin regimes highlights its stability—

Spectrally resolved single-shot wavefront sensing of broadband high-harmonic sources

open access: yes, 2017
Wavefront sensors are an important tool to characterize coherent beams of extreme ultraviolet radiation. However, conventional Hartmann-type sensors do not allow for independent wavefront characterization of different spectral components that may be ...

Photoluminescent UV Light Modulation via Anisometric Carbon Nanodots for UV–Visible Shutter and UV Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Anisometric carbon nanodots are synthesized directly from a liquid crystal precursor and embedded into polymer network liquid crystals to create soft, multifunctional photonic films. These hybrid devices exhibit polarized photoluminescence, broad UV absorption, and fast, electrically tunable light modulation.

A 3D Biofabricated Disease Model Mimicking the Brain Extracellular Matrix Suitable to Characterize Intrinsic Neuronal Network Alterations in the Presence of a Breast Tumor Disseminated to the Brain

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D disease model is developed using customized hyaluronic‐acid‐based hydrogels supplemented with extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins resembling brain ECM properties. Neurons, astrocytes, and tumor cells are used to mimic the native brain surrounding.
