Vasovagal syncope is a common cause of sudden collapse. It results from inappropriate activation of left ventricular mechanoreceptors causing sudden vasodilation with bradycardia. Tilt testing is an inexpensive and non-invasive way of establishing a vasovagal diagnosis in unexplained syncope.

An imbalance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems has been indicated in obesity. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the results of tilt table testing (TT) in obese patients.59 patients with simple obesity (F/M: 50/9; BMI: 36.9+/-3.9 kg/m(2)), and 19 healthy subjects of the control group (F/M: 16/3; BMI: 24.7+/-4.3 kg/m ...

Experimental Studies on the Basic Friction Angle of Planar Rock Surfaces by Tilt Test
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2018The basic friction angle is a basic parameter for estimating the shear strength of rock discontinuities. The value of the basic friction angle can be determined using the tilt test. There are still no standard methods for such a test.

Experimental Study of Factors Controlling Tilt-Test Results Performed on Saw-Cut Rock Joints
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2018One of the main inputs when estimating the shear strength of rock discontinuities, according to most existing strength criteria, is what is known as the basic friction angle, which is a parameter that responds to the frictional resistance of a planar ...

Evaluation of the “Tilt Test” in children
Annals of Emergency Medicine, 1987The "tilt test" (assessment of orthostatic pulse and blood pressure) is a non-invasive screening test for acute intravascular volume loss with well-accepted utility in the emergency evaluation of adults. Its value in children has been questioned because of reports of high false-positive rates.

The contribution of isoproterenol to the prolonged tilt test [PDF]
In this study the tilt test, in combination with isoproterenol administration, was used to investigate 44 patients with unexplained syncope. The reproducibility of the method was studied in a group of 32 patients who underwent a second test. The administration of isoproterenol during the test increased the sensitivity of the method from 52 to 70% and ...

The Active Stand and Tilt Tests
2020A critical step in the clinical evaluation of postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) is the assessment of orthostatic tachycardia. Active stand testing (AST) and head up tilt table testing (HUT) can both be used to evaluate the presence of this tachycardia.

Tilt table testing for syncope and collapse
Herzschrittmachertherapie + Elektrophysiologie, 2018Head-up tilt (HUT) has long been used to examine heart rate and blood pressure adaptation to changes in position. During such studies, incidental observations noted that some test subjects experienced total or near-total transient loss of consciousness and that, in some cases, hypotension was associated with unexpected marked bradycardia compatible ...

Pathophysiological studies of tilt table aided orthostatic stress on humans were fifty years old before the evolution of head-upright tilt table testing into the diagnostic test of choice in vasovagal syncope. Variations in orthostatic tolerance demonstrated by tilt table testing were observed in normal subjects1,2 and in association with pregnancy,3 ...
