Tilted Bragg gratings in step-index polymer optical fiber

Optics Letters, 2014
We report the first slightly tilted Bragg gratings photo-inscription in polymer optical fiber (POF). For this, we make use of trans-4-stilbenemethanol-doped photosensitive step-index poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) POFs. Tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs) are inscribed in the near-infrared wavelength range using the scanning phase mask technique with

Temperature‐independent fiber bragg grating tilt sensor

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 2010
AbstractA novel fiber Bragg grating (FBG) tilt sensor is proposed to detect the magnitude and the direction of a two‐dimensional inclination by using four FBGs. High angle sensitivity and measurement resolution have been achieved, and the temperature effect has been eliminated completely without additional temperature compensation schemes. Experimental

Optical coupling between a long-period fiber grating and a parallel tilted fiber Bragg grating

Optics Letters, 2009
We experimentally demonstrate the contradirectional optical coupling between two parallel fibers that contain a long-period fiber grating and a tilted fiber Bragg grating, respectively. Strong coupling occurs between the cladding modes of the same order over the overlapped resonance bands of the two gratings.

Temperature-Independent Fiber Bragg Grating Tilt Sensor

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2004
We report a vertical-pendulum-based fiber Bragg grating tilt sensor, which can detect the magnitude as well as the direction of the inclination from the horizontal direction. The sensor is insensitive to temperature, and preliminary results show that tilt angle accuracy and resolution of better than 0.1/spl deg/ and 0.007/spl deg/ can be easily ...

Radiation in 45-degree tilted fiber Bragg gratings

2015 11th Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO-PR), 2015
Surface-normal radiation of 45° tilted fiber gratings are fabricated and measured. A 3-minute exposure time of tilted FBGs can cause −15dB radiation efficiency, while a 1.5-minute exposure time can create the radiated efficiency of −16.2dB.

Tilted Fiber Bragg Gratings as Multi-Sensors

Optics and Photonics News, 2011
The tilted fiber Bragg grating is a new kind of sensor that possesses all the advantages of well-established Bragg grating technology in addition to being able to excite cladding modes resonantly. This device opens up a multitude of opportunities for single-point sensing in hard-to-reach spaces.

Bending sensor based on tilted fiber Bragg grating

2018 Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP), 2018
A novel and simple optical fiber bending sensor based on tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) with wavelength demodulation method is proposed. The sensor’s performances are investigated and controlled by detecting of mode wavelength shift between the compressed cladding modes and the uncompressed cladding modes during bending.

Leaky Mode Combs in Tilted Fiber Bragg Grating

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2019
Leaky modes in tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) present attractive properties but it has been generally underestimated and ignored. Herein, we systematically investigate the enhancement mechanism and the sensing performance of the enhanced leaky mode resonance (eLMR) combs in ‘dielectric graphene’ integrated TFBG in theory.

The spectral properties of bended tilted fiber Bragg gratings

Optical Fibers and Their Applications 2018, 2019
This paper presents the introduction about fiber periodic structures which have a ability to coupling light from fiber core to cladding, their principles and applications. Paper also presents the detail description of particular example of TFBG spectral response for changes of fiber bending in range of curvature radius from 30 to 7 mm.
