UV Index on Tilted Surfaces

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2006
ABSTRACTSolar ultraviolet erythemal irradiance (UVER) has been studied on inclined planes with different orientations in Valencia, Spain. To do this a platform was designed that could turn through 90° on its own axis. The radiometers were inclined at an angle close to the latitude of Valencia (39.5° N).

Spatial coherence profilometry on tilted surfaces

Applied Optics, 2009
The influence of tilted surfaces on the measurement of shape by spatial coherence profilometry is investigated. Based on theoretical analysis and experimental results, the systematic measurement error caused by surface tilt is determined. The systematic measurement error depends not only on the tilt angle but also on the parameters of the experimental ...

Tilt and splay of surfactants on surfaces

Physical Review A, 1986
The energy of a monolayer of surfactant on a surface is calculated as a function of the orientation of the surfactant tails. The structure is determined by a competition between the spacings preferred by the polar heads and nonpolar tails. As a function of the head-tail mismatch, we find a region of no molecular tilt, and one of uniform tilt.

Package Tilt Prediction Using Surface Evolver

Volume 5: Electronics and Photonics, 2007
In board level package mounting process, many parameters will influence the final joint shape including the package stand-off height. If the stand-off height of solder joints at opposite ends does not equal, package tilting will occur. As a proactive measure to ascertain no tilting issues for newly develop packages, a methodology of predicting package ...

Lesion classification using 3D skin surface tilt orientation

Skin Research and Technology, 2012
Background/purposeCurrent non‐invasive diagnostic procedures to detect skin cancer rely on two‐dimensional (2D) views of the skin surface. For example, the most commonly‐used ABCD features are extracted from the 2D images of skin lesion. However, because the skin surface is an object in three‐dimensional (3D) space, valuable additional information can ...

Tilt-invariant theory of rough-surface scattering: I

Waves in Random Media, 1995
Summary: The small-slope approximation (SSA) in rough-surfce scattering theory uses the surface slope as a small parameter of expansion. But, from the physical point of view, the slope may not be a restrictive parameter because we can change the slope of a surface simply by tilting the coordinate system.

Pronounced overestimation of support surface tilt during stance

Experimental Brain Research, 2005
A veridical internal notion of the kinematic state of the foot support is essential for postural control. The means by which this is obtained is still a matter of debate. We therefore measured the conscious perception of support tilt during transient anterior-posterior rotations of a motion platform in six healthy subjects, using a psychophysical ...

Thermally stable surface-emitting tilted wave laser

Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers XXII, 2018
Novel lasing modes in a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL)-type structure based on an antiwaveguding cavity are studied. Such a VCSEL cavity has an effective refractive index in the cavity region lower than the average index of the distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs).

Evaluation of hourly tilted surface radiation models

Solar Energy, 1990
This study investigates the performance of the isotropic and four anisotropic hourly tilted surface radiation models by using monthly average hourly utilizable energy as a standard of measure. Utilizable energy is the radiation above a specified threshold level.
