A phase 2 study of an oral mTORC1/mTORC2 kinase inhibitor (CC-223) for non-pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors with or without carcinoid symptoms.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Second-generation mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors such as CC-223 may have theoretical advantages over first-generation drugs by inhibiting TOR kinase in mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1) and 2 (mTORC2), potentially improving clinical efficacy for ...

The Mice at play in the CALIFA survey: A case study of a gas-rich major merger between first passage and coalescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We present optical integral field spectroscopy (IFS) observations of the Mice, a major merger between two massive (>10^11Msol) gas-rich spirals NGC4676A and B, observed between first passage and final coalescence.

Modeling Defects, Shape Evolution, and Programmed Auto-origami in Liquid Crystal Elastomers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Liquid crystal elastomers represent a novel class of programmable shape-transforming materials whose shape change trajectory is encoded in the material's nematic director field.

Paracrine Factor Local Gradient‐Generating System for Engineering Perfusable Vascularized Hepatocyte Tissues with Perfusion‐Induced Proliferation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A paracrine factor local gradient (PFLG)‐generating system enables microvessel penetration across 3D hepatocyte tissues. The resulting vascularized constructs recapitulate hepatic sinusoidal hepatocyte—endothelial contact architecture and enhance hepatic functions in vitro.

A supermartingale argument for characterizing the Functional Hill process weak law for small parameters

open access: yes, 2016
The paper deals with the asymptotic laws of functional of standard random variables. These classes of statistics are closely related to estimators of the extreme value index when the underlying distribution function is in the Weibull domain of attraction.

Hybrid Magnetoactive Soft Elastomers: Material Development Toward Application in Diaphragm Pumps

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hybrid magnetoactive soft elastomeric membranes are developed by combining two different types of magnetic particles. The membranes exhibit distinct mechanical, magnetic and thermal properties owing to the unique characteristics of the two magnetic particles.

Efficacy of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Daily Life (ACT-DL) in early psychosis: study protocol for a multi-centre randomized controlled trial

open access: yesTrials, 2019
Background Psychotic experiences, social functioning and general psychopathology are important targets for early intervention in individuals with Ultra-High-Risk state (UHR) and a first-episode psychosis (FEP).

High‐Power Rapid Laser‐Induced Synthesis of Multi‐functional Cobalt Metal‐Organic Framework With an Unprecedented Synthesis Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Laser‐assisted synthesis enables rapid (within 1 h) and high‐yield (≥90%) production of Co‐MOFs with mesoporous structures, tunable magnetic and optical properties, and efficient adsorption of N2, CH4, and CO2 for low‐energy gas separation. DFT calculations elucidate the electronic structure and adsorption behavior.

Individualized Prediction of Transition to Psychosis in 1,676 Individuals at Clinical High Risk: Development and Validation of a Multivariable Prediction Model Based on Individual Patient Data Meta-Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2019
Background: The Clinical High Risk state for Psychosis (CHR-P) has become the cornerstone of modern preventive psychiatry. The next stage of clinical advancements rests on the ability to formulate a more accurate prognostic estimate at the individual ...

Uncovering regulatory pathways that affect hematopoietic stem cell function using 'genetical genomics' [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We combined large-scale mRNA expression analysis and gene mapping to identify genes and loci that control hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function. We measured mRNA expression levels in purified HSCs isolated from a panel of densely genotyped recombinant ...
