ENHANCEMENT OF TIMBER PRODUCTION [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Considering the wide distribution of chestnut trees throughout Europe (including outside EU countries, from Portugal to Georgia and Azerbaijan), and the high density of forest (France and Italy count together up to 14.000 km2 of chestnut forests), chestnut timber production proves to be a very good opportunity for all the Countries where it grows ...

A Deep Learning Framework for Forecasting Medium‐Term Covariance in Multiasset Portfolios

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Forecasting the covariance matrix of asset returns is central to portfolio construction, risk management, and asset pricing. However, most existing models struggle at medium‐term horizons, several weeks to months, where shifting market regimes and slower dynamics prevail.

Perennial Legumes Pueraria phaseoloides and Leucaena leucocephala Exhibit High Potential for Fertility Restoration of Degraded Mined Soils in Ghana

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
Revegetating the subsoil layer of abandoned gold mined sites with the perennial legumes Leucaena Leucocephala, Pueraria phaseoloides and Gliricidia sepium without any soil amendments increases the content of soil organic carbon and important macro‐nutrients, which are crucial for restoring soil health and productivity. These improvements in soil health

Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.) and global climate change: a new perspective for sustainable forestry

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change
Global climate change is a major challenge for forestry because it fundamentally alters the growth conditions of tree species. Sycamore maple (Acer pseudoplatanus L.), often overlooked in forest management, is increasingly recognized as a valuable ...

Spatial and temporal variation in survival of female wild turkeys

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We monitored 370 female wild turkeys across North Carolina's 3 ecoregions from 2020‐2022 to understand factors influencing their survival. Female survival varied by ecoregion and behavior state, with the incubation period having the lowest survival rates. None of the land cover variables affected survival.

Bridging data gaps: Evidence‐based population assessment for an endemic amphibian of conservation concern

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Plethodon welleri exhibits strong seasonal shifts in elevational activity with abundance and occupancy being linked to terrain characteristics. Despite historical habitat assumptions, P. welleri occurs in a broad range of forest types across a larger elevation gradient. Photo Credit to Maxwell Ramey.

What Makes Mountain Pine Beetle a Tricky Pest? Difficult Decisions when Facing Beetle Attack in a Mixed Species Forest [PDF]

open access: yes
The pine forest of British Columbia is undergoing its largest recorded pest epidemic. The damage caused by native mountain pine beetle creates difficulties for the public owner of the resource, which is interested in protecting future timber supply while
