Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Unraveling cardiac arrhythmia frequency: comparative analysis using time and frequency domain algorithms

open access: yesFrontiers in Signal Processing
During cardiac arrhythmia, the heart frequency is an important physiological parameter that can be identified by analyzing electrocardiogram (ECG) signals.

Parameter Estimation Processor for Chirp Signals Based on a Complex-Valued Deep Neural Network

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper addresses the problem of estimating the parameters of constant-amplitude chirp signals that have single or multiple components and are embedded in noise.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Time Delay and Frequency Analysis of Remote Microphones

open access: yesAudiology Research
Background/Objectives: A.BA.CO. is a speech-to-text captioning system developed for school classrooms. The system uses remote microphones to capture the teacher’s speech without background noise.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Performance Analysis of High Voltage Insulators Surface Condition Using Time-frequency Distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents the leakage current of polymeric and non–polymeric insulation materials in contaminated condition. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polypropylene (PP) are selected as polymeric materials.
