Linear and Nonlinear Polarization Syntheses and Their Programmable Controls based on Anisotropic Time‐Domain Digital Coding Metasurface [PDF]
Spatial polarization converter can shift the polarization state of incident wave to another state in a specific frequency band. The traditional polarization conversion devices mainly include natural materials and artificial electromagnetic (EM) structures, which are generally sensitive to the incident polarization states and cannot realize polarization

AbstractTailoring the electromagnetic responses by metasurface greatly expands one's capabilities to manipulate light in a controlled manner. Either amplitude or phase of the incident wave can be altered during the light–matter interaction, and thus opens the possibility of information modulation without conventional analog or digital circuits.

Experimental demonstration of a time-domain digital-coding metasurface for a Doppler cloak
By generating an artificial Doppler shift, a Doppler cloak can compensate for the Doppler shift from a moving object. An object covered by a Doppler cloak will be detected as a static object, even if it is actually moving. Herein, we experimentally demonstrate the Doppler cloak in a radar system using a time-domain digital-coding metasurface.

Two-dimensional direction-of-arrival estimation based on time-domain-coding digital metasurface
Applied Physics Letters, 2022Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation is one of the most critical technologies of radar, remote sensing, and wireless communications. The traditional DOA estimation is closely related to phased array antennas, which require complicated and expensive hardware and high-power consumption.

Metasurfaces are well-designed artificial periodic or quasiperiodic structures to achieve customized electromagnetic responses. Based on the time-domain digital coding metasurface (TDCM) with dynamic reflection or transmission characteristics, one can realize direct information modulation on the metasurface, which has been used in wireless ...
